Hi Todd and all,

A friend of mine arrives in Thailand with 14 days visa and he's now admitted to Phaya Thai 3 Hospital for medical reasons. The hospital has provided him with the letter to extend his visa for another 30 days or 60 days.

Which is the best way to extend his stay now?

Thanks in advance.

Answer summary

A friend's visa in Thailand is expiring and he needs to extend it due to medical reasons after being hospitalized. To secure an extension, he should take the medical certificate from the hospital along with his passport to the Thai immigration office. The extension can be for 30 or 60 days as per the doctor's request, and there is a fee of 1900 Thai baht.

The doctor will make a specific request for the extension based on medical reasons...requesting an extension of either 30 or 60 days. Your post says 30 or 60.

Take the doctors and hospitals medical certificate requesting an extension of stay for medical reasons to the Thai immigration office along with his passport and 1900 Thai baht.

The decision to grant the extension is that of the Thai immigration office.
