Hello everyone, 3 weeks ago I was in an accident and required surgery. My visa runs out in early May but the surgeon wants to see me 3 days after my visa expires. He wrote a letter confirming I have an appointment with him. I have been told if I give this letter to immigration they can give me a months extension and not have to go to Lao. Can anyone confirm this and the extension please.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks clarification on obtaining a visa extension in Thailand for a medical appointment that occurs after their visa has expired. Comments suggest that while a letter from a doctor may facilitate the process, obtaining an extension specifically for medical reasons requires proper documentation at a local immigration office. Advice includes ensuring the doctor provides a detailed letter confirming the medical need and the inability to travel.

not expect too much from the Immigration Doctor, but please try this way first.

I had to attend a very important Court Case a very long time ago, I had a letter for immigration from the Police but it made no difference at all.

An extension of stay based on litigation or court is totally different from one based on medical reasons.

definitely GO to the immigration office and see what documentation is required so you can get a medical extension BEFORE you end up on overstay.

That way you can have the doctor write the correct letter and provide the documentation you need.

I would suggest you get your doctor give you another letter ...Do Not Fly for 30 days...as you are under medical treatment for eye surgery. Good luck

James is right, get letter from doctor that you are not allowed to travel for next xx number of days, happened this to my friend before, and there will be immigration doctor also to check, you can show the stitches.

As I said I'm not a medic, but stitches in the eye, a big eye plaster to cover it and he is good to go in my opinion.

Robert Lagas agreed...DO NOT TRAVEL for 30 days...is best. He is having stitches taken out...could need followup afterwards...especially if complications develop.

Only for an appointment it does not work that way. If you are not allowed to travel due to medical reasons you can apply for an Extension of Stay at your local Immigration Office.

I'm not a medic, discussing with me does not help. The only thing you can do is visit Immigration and ask.
