What is the process for obtaining an extension on your visa if you are unwell? I have dengue and now entering the recovery stage. If anyone has had it, trust me the thought of having to travel is just unthinkable. My visa extension of 30 days is due to expire on Monday. I planned to go to penang to get my non O....but still so unwell. I am no longer under the local hospital and wondered if there is a way to get an extra week or so to fully recover. My local office is Samui.
TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a medical extension on your visa in Thailand due to illness, specifically dengue, you need to secure a letter from your treating doctor or hospital stating that you are unfit for travel. This letter is necessary for the immigration office. You can visit the local immigration office with this documentation to apply for the extension, which can potentially be granted for up to 90 days. In case of any difficulties, it is advisable to be persistent and prepare for possible pushback at the immigration office.
