Hi all. I'm a 60s Aussie and have been to Thailand a few times in the last 3 years and now looking at a long stay, from May 2023. Have read and viewed lots re visas, and was thinking that best approach was to arrive on a tourist visa, then convert to 90 day Non-immigrant O (NIO), then go for 1 year extension. NIO seemed the better choice due to no health insurance requirement (although I'd get some for myself anyway).

I was surprised to see on the Thai embassy website here in Australia, that I could apply for a NIO here, before going to Thailand. I had thought that I could only apply for non-immigrant OA in Australia, with the big health insurance component.

I emailed them to double check, and they said yes, NIO can be applied for, here in Australia. But they wouldn't answer my query re whether I could then go for a 1 year extension of it, once in Thailand.

Any thoughts, anyone?

BTW, the NIO details on the Thai embassy's website in Australia cite these requirements:

3.5 Proof of adequate finance

* A bank statement in the past six months showing a deposit account with the minimum fund of THB 20,000 per person

3.6 Health Insurance

* A certificate of health insurance issued by Thai insurance companies covering the entire period of stay in Thailand containing the detail of coverage as follows; In-house patients of not less than THB 400,000/policy year, as for out-patients, not less than THB 40,000/policy year.

Hi everyone - Sorry if this has been answered, I tried to find it but couldn't.

I'm Australian looking to go to Thailand and stay for approximately 3months if possible.

Wondering what's the easiest path? I believe there are two options. 60 day TV + 30 day extension or 45 day entry + 2x 30 day extensions? Am I missing anything? Thanks!

Hi guys.

I am a French citizen who spend 89 days in Thailand from December 16th to March 14th on a tourist visa (60days) witch I extended for 30 days .

I am back in France now and I originally planned to ask for a second tourist visa but the Thai embassy in France enforce the rule of waiting 3 months after return .

Do you think I can come to Thailand April 23th on a visa exemption and ask later for an extension ?

I don’t have a record of long stay or back to back visit. It was my first “long stay” in Thailand my others visits being 15 days each summer .

Thanks for your help.

Please advise:

I (Belgian national) came here on a 2 month tourist visa, which I extended 30 days, then I did a border run at Myanmar, for another 30 days stamp (visa exempt I think it's called). So I have been here almost 4 months now. Is it advisable to:

1. get another extension,

2. do another border run, or

3. leave the country for a few weeks/months and get a new tourist visa

Thanks
