TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the uncertainty for foreigners in Thailand regarding visa extensions and registration processes due to changing regulations influenced by government meetings. Concerns have been raised about those with expired tourist visas and the registration for returning foreigners, especially those in relationships with Thai nationals or having children. Many commenters express frustration over the lack of clear guidelines, and some seek advice on obtaining visas to visit spouses or for family reunification.

I have just got this officially from embassy you cannot register yet. The 2000 or so they said registered must be crossover from work permit holders.

This is the Press. I rather suspect that the word 'register' is a misnomer.
David ***********
How and where do you register to travel I am married to a Thai for 12 years now.
Otto *********
Politicians and beaurocrats screwing up everything... as usual.

Tourists changing to other location will not come back again. That is a general experience.

Be fair. They are, at least, thinking about what they are doing. This only hit 3 months ago. Sorting it all out will take time. Frustrating as that is.
Patrick ************
How to apply to come visit spouse? Anybody know
RJ ********
@Patrick ***********
there isn’t any place to register yet. It’s still all talk. It’s going in front of the cabinet this week. I’m sure everything will be a bit more clear later this week or early next week.

So # 4... medical & wellness tourists... ummm like doctors & nurses, in case they have a sudden cluster or influx of cases... lol

30,000?!?

Wtf? That # seems rather high... & biased👎🏼

Are a majority Chinese affiliated w/ the government that was part of all the “assistance”

🤓🙄

If you book for a gender change operation. I think that counts!

But what about work permit and visa expired ... ministry of labour is not issuing any letter to strained non Thai working people.
Oliver ********
great news

I could/should have extended my none o visa in sarakham, when I went into the office, I quote “Falang no visa now, you Stephen Gerrard” so that was the official statement I got, wasn’t 100% sure but I’m still worried I should have extended and I’m not Stephen Gerrard, I don’t even support Liverpool. Everyday something new comes out, I’d assume they do not even know themselves given they are still using sticky notes and computers from the 1980s, I hope people with kids are first on the list married or not.
James **************
What about foreigners with kids but not married. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😥
Michael ********
@James *************
unfortunately around most places in world its marriage only. I know so many people had to get married to get visas with there other half. Singapore Dubai Malaysia Brasil UK.
Mark ********
@Michael *******
Not the UK, there is absolutely no difference in 'rights' by marriage, even when children are involved.
Michael ********
@Mark *******
For foriegner to get visa ? That was the question.
Mark ********
@Michael *******
Yes, marriage is not an obligation for visa, an 'existing and genuine' relationship suffices.
Michael ********
@Mark *******
ok thats changed (i rarely go back) my sister had to get married for her husband but that was 20 years ago
Mark ********
@Michael *******
Oh yes, it's definitely changed, the UK has become a land of rainbow and unicorn paradise, whatever the relationship is, it is recognised.
Michael ********
@Mark *******
probably why i rarely go back
Bobby ********
@James *************
. If that's the case, I have rights in about ten countries around the world! 🤣🤣🤣
Allan ************
@Bobby *******
so you have been married to ten different women?
Allan ************
@James *************
that’s why people marry to give them rights, respect and responsibility, you have none of these.
Alice ********
@Allan ***********
Damn, so mean.
Allan ************
@Alice ********
unfortunately people do not like the truth, because it does not suit their agenda, I point out facts of law, not fairytales
James **************
@Allan ***********
its the year 2020 not 1820! 🤣

im not worried believe me, i already live in thailand.

Im talking about the 1000's of people who have kids that are abroad and not married.

Will be painful for them to read that.

In this day and age people choose not to marry for certain reasons.

If you think getting married gives you rights, respect and responsibility in 2020 you are sorely mistaken.

Or maybe you are a time traveller.

Either way your.comment is nonsense.

"expected to". Nothing official will be decided or announced until after the Cabinet meeting.

ps when is the cabinet meeting? I have booked my flights to Bangkok on 1st January 2021 from Birmingham UK 🇬🇧 I will take full responsibility if I can’t fly 🙏😊🇹🇭✈️

Steve ********
So people currently in Thailand with expired tourist visas that probably need to leave around 31.07 will not be able for a visa run and return shortly?
Bobby ********
@Steve *******
. I think border bouncing and one-day visa runs may be a thing of the past. Tourists (once they're allowed in under the "bubble" principle) will need to apply through an embassy for visa and certificate of entry
Bim *******
@Bobby *******
you have a good point at least for the foreseeable future. Doesn't help those already here unless they allow us to apply within the country instead of insisting we have to border bounce
Bobby ********
@Bim ******
. Your situation is different. You're not coming off a tourist visa. You've had seven years residence under a PE. I still do not believe you will be compelled to leave the country to go through bureaucratic red tape. I think in the next few weeks we're going to see a massive shake up of visa laws in Thailand which will enable residents like yourself to switch in country
Michael ********
@Bobby *******
i am dreading and looking forward to see what they have come up with during lockdown. But think your right there is going to be changes
Bim *******
@Bobby *******
oh I so hope your right. This border bounce nonsense is so needing an overhaul.
Steve ********
@Bim ******
thats what I'm hoping for...
Bim *******
@Steve *******
me too or I have to leave on the 31st
Steve ********
@Bim ******
I can't imagine they make all the thousands of tourists leave on that one day.. big mess at the airports :D
Roy ***********
@Steve *******
Probably they do nothing to make you leave, but you will be on overstay. So not everybody will have to leave at once, but those getting caught will probably have a problem.

I hope for people on tourist visa they get more time, but if amnesty ends 31 July, there is not much they can say. Immigration will say tourist had a lot of time leaving Thailand.

Just my thought on the situation, not claiming to be an expert.
Darren *******
@Roy **********
the amnesty was introduced to give people extra time to leave Thailand. I think it's fair to say that those who arrived on tourist visas or visa exempt status have had plenty of time to arrange a flight back home/out of Thailand.
Bim *******
@Steve *******
for sure
Stefano ***********
Target countries include China. FFS, what drugs are these twits smoking.
Roy ***********
@Stefano **********
They handled their crisis very well. It has nothing to do with 70% of tourists an their money coming from China.🤔

not bad considering America had like 20,000 just yesterday.

True, not to mention the fact that America, UK, and a host of other countries I could mention are doing a piss poor job of handling their crises!

I doubt we will hear the fat lady sing for some time to come. It's far from over...
