Being both a German and Suisse national, turning 48 very soon, I am currently considering to move to Thailand in the near future. Having done some research regarding visas a, I am still quite uncertain what is the best option for me.

I’ve already learnt that I am eligible to apply for Education Visa which is supposed to run one year. For that purpose, I need to find a language school in Thailand where I could either enhance my English skills or learn the Thai language from scratch.
Can I apply for another type of visa after one year? Am I eligible to apply for the same visa after one year again?
Furthermore, could I apply for an Education Visa in Thailand if I entered already on Tourist Visa (60+30 days)

In addition to that, the Thai government offers the opportunity to apply for an DTV which is valid for 5 years. Basically, there are three options given for the DTV Visa, two of them include soft options such as Thai Cooking Course and Muay Thai Training. Since it is valid for 5 years do I need to take part in several courses over the duration of 5 years in order to keep the Visa valid? I already know that I have to leave the country after 180 days.
3. Could you be so kind to give me a recommendation regarding an agency (preferably in the Chiang Mai area), which deals with Visas and relating stuff?
Hello, just wondering if anyone here has any experience with studying Thai on an education visa ? —- would love to find out more and all about it ..
And also wondering if anyone would see any reason for it to be a problem for me if….
I’m booked to be in Chiang Mai in December for 4 weeks on a holiday visit … but then I’m really looking into wanting to come back in 2026 hoping/dreaming / looking into taking a gap year never took ( 38 now lol ) and living in Chiang Mai for a year as a bit of a adventure … was thinking of emersing myself in Thai culture and learning thai on a education visa hopefully 🤞🏼 that’s my idea so far but doing the research now … as I’d love to be out of melb Australia by next winter I’d love to be over there by June …. Would anyone foresee me running into any difficulties if I was there for 4 weeks in Dec 2025 and then hoping to go back more long term day end of may /June next year??? I don’t know if they will be like why are you back etc… haha I just love Chiang Mai I’d love to do this adventure and love abroad for a year … crazy scary but also life is short and I need a big shake up it feels . …
Also I’m no digital nomad so don’t see that I can go down that route ….
Who independently applied for a DTV visa for softpower cooking courses, Tell me what documents you requested from the school for the visa application.🙂
I heard the news about the news of undergrads and graduates getting a visa extension post graduation from Thailand universities, is this true? If so, how would that process start
Is it possible to apply for an education visa, and after that for an Elite visa? I have read that this might be difficult to obtain and wondering if that is true and also why? Tnx folks
Hoping someone can provide some advise with my daughters education visa.
She currently attends school in Phuket and holds her education visa (currently 90 day one)
I have now been provided with the updated documents from her school and will be going to immigration next week to start the process of turning her 90 day visa in to the 1 year education visa as we have now reached the 45 day mark.
Few questions for this (I have contacted the school but would like to collate as much advise/information as possible to avoid any mistakes and additional 😅)
1) Does my daughter need to attend with me?
2) Do I need to provide all same documents as before, so House book, TM30, etc. Or will this stay on the system and can be used again?
3) Will the cost for this still remain as 2000baht?
If there is anything else you can think of that may help me with this, that would be much appreciated.
I have a question: I'm fly to Laos to get my education visa. I'm getting through the muay thai gym that I train at. I was looking in the embassy website to make sure I had all the paperwork that I need and I saw something about bringing a criminal background check....
I asked the people at the muay thai school about this and the person I've been work with to get the visa and they all said they've never heard of having to bring one in order to get the visa. Does anyone know if that's something I'd need to get?
