Hi all. I have a question about the education visa.

I have applied at a school and now have my letter. Next step is to fly to a country nearby and get the visa issued.

My questions are..

How much money would I need to show in my bank account?

Do I just need the current funds or any extra history of funds?

What is the best country to get the visa? I was told by my school not to go to Laos, Vietnam, KL and they said they have even heard of someone being turned down in Myanmar.

They said Penang is my best hope.

Finally do I need a police record check?

I plan to learn Thai and study at school.

Thanks for any advice..

Edit. Do I need proof that I'm leaving the country after the visa expires? I.e same as a tourist visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry discusses the requirements for obtaining an education visa in Thailand after being accepted by a school, including questions about necessary funds in a bank account, preferred countries for applying for the visa, police record checks, and proof of leaving the country post visa expiration. Several community members provide insights, suggesting the amount that needs to be displayed in the bank, potential visa application locations, and the importance of meeting the specific consulate's requirements.

You will need 20K in your bank, actual money. Not sure about history, you can ask

If all documents, etc are OK, Vientiane is still the best option. We still have many applications approved in Laos, it all depends on preparation and visa history. Yesterday Yangon said no to all ED applications ( 8people) so it is not the end of the world, they want to check Schools first, so it might be OK next week. There is no good or bad Consulate, it is just what you present them.

Amornrat Mattioli thanks that makes me feel much better.

My situation is I worked in the UK for many years, brought a nice house car etc. It was very long hours and stressful so I decided to leave and pursue my dream of living in a hot country. I've met a Thai women and want to learn the language so I can communicate with her family. I have the funds so I will not need to work I really just want to study. Reading up on this it seems that because many people use studying as an excuse to get a visa and this is making it very difficult for people that actually want to study here.

Anyway, thanks for the advice I really appreciate it.

Reading your list of where your school, says where not to go, it sounds like they are out of options already.

Go to your passport country and apply.

First the letter for your Ed Visa ...

...Where does your school recommend you go for the visa?

...look at the requirements listed for the Ed visa on the Thai Consulate you will be going to...fulfill their stated requirements.

...If you have a history of staying in Thailand on visa exempt entries, tourist visas with extensions... Some Thai Consulates seem to be denying Ed Visas.

...and it might be wise for you to seek employment in Thailand which provides you a legal work permit.

Good Luck.
