TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking guidance on suitable visa options for relocating to Thailand with their family, as their daughter wishes to attend Chiang Mai University and their son will enroll in an international school. They have ruled out retirement visas due to their ages. The community suggests multiple options, including the Elite visa, which requires payment and offers benefits, and a Guardian visa, which allows one parent to stay with children enrolled in educational institutions until they're 20. Other suggestions involve exploring educational programs that could facilitate obtaining education visas. Users emphasize the importance of contacting Thai embassies for precise and current information.

What ever you decide, it is going to be expensive to do it legally. Your best bet, if you do have a legal business you'll be depending on for your living income, you're best be might be setting up a branch office in Thailand, and register, and incorporate it through the BOI, Board of Investment. You have the same basic financial requirements as a regular registered business, but you don't have the hiring of Thai employees requirement. The ED visas are only temporary, and being tightened up on, as there are lots of shady deals through agents. There are really only three options for you, and they are all expensive. The Elite visa, starting a business or a branch office, and an investment visa, but, none of them are cheap options, but they are all legal, and above board.
go the ThaiElite route you can get a Family membership for thb800,000 for 5 years for your wife and yourself but extras added on will be thb300,000 for the 5 yer period. this will save you alot of visiting immigration for visas and also likely employing and agent or lawyers to do for you. they have a website just visa there are longer durations but of course everything costs... good luck
Kids can get education visas with 1 guardian visa each until age 20. If you will be working remotely you will legally require a work permit and business visa (if planning to ignore this law, I recommend not to post about it online). If you are so rich you don't need to work you can get buy an Elite visa (after guardian visa).
If the elite visa isn't something you want to pay out for and the guardian visa isn't suitable, then consider taking on some study course which can get you an Ed visa.
With the current situation you most likely can't get one outside of Thailand at this time..but if you can get in on another temp visa (phuket sandbox tourist visa, for example), then you could apply for an Ed visa course when in the country. Expect to pay more than normal though (around 39k per course), but you can study Thai language or some other course and get a long term visa.
Maybe someone else can help with info. I'm just trying to come up with an alternative idea ..but not sure if will work for you or not
or maybe get the 3 month guardian visa and then get on a course and Ed visa. This kind of visa can be done in country currently. But check details first to make sure.
a long way and a lot of uncertainty to bring a family. No clear cut answer and a lot of risk. Maybe wait till covoid under control with full population vaccine and then better research for options
Your children can get a visa based on them going to school, I think it's a Non Ed Visa and you get one each as their parents - 1 child can have 1 parent as a guardian. It's very cheap, £100 each or similar. But they need to enroll into school upfront I believe.
i just asked the embassy in Denmark regarding non o guardian visa 1 year Multiple, they told me that they don't do that anymore, they would give me 3 months single. Last year the same embassy made a 1 year non O Multiple under same circumstances
that's interesting. The Thai Embassy in Singapore told me very recently that the Education - Gardian Visa for one year was still available. We applied for a three month tourist visa in the end as it suited our needs better. I believe it can be extended multiple times in the current COVID times in which we live. I did also double check the Education Visa with the Phuket International school who sent me details on it. Anything less than a year would be unworkable as you need to enroll children into school for the whole year.
Maybe he's just looking for ideas for himself. Nothing wrong with asking how people make their money if they're willing to tell, though he could have phrased it a bit more politely.
“Guardian” visa looking after your children (up until they’re 20) as they would have valid Ed visas for university and an international school. Only one parent per child is allowed to do so. Longer term options would probably require looking into an elite visa or something like a volunteer visa through an agency until you get to 50.
