TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent discussions indicate that renewing an education visa in Thailand is still feasible, despite rumors of increasing difficulty. It is essential that your school assists with the necessary paperwork, which is typically managed every three months. While the process seems to be returning to normal, applicants should be prepared for possible additional scrutiny during immigration checks.

Things are mostly back to normal. Just expect extra questions or scrutiny when you go to immigration.
not really, depending on your school and most probably on 5he city/immigration office. Main issue with education visas is to pass the immigration officer at the airport, thay could be suspicious, at the local immigration the schools usually have some "friends"...
no not scamming, i actually attend the classes and am learning thai, but i heard that even real students and real schools are having trouble getting renewels
they usually do for ED extensions. They'll talk to you in Thai to test you. And eventually you'll have to go to the ministry of education and take a formal test.

Your school will sort your paperwork for immigration every 3 months when you go to extend
what does your school say? If you're going to your regular classes then they should know if you ask them. If you're not actually going to any classes then you could have problems. With the 27 immigration officers arrested concerning the false ED visas to the Chinese criminals last month, another 58 officers were releaved of duty last Friday concerning the same false ED visa issuing. They weren't only issuing them to the Chinese, but many others as well. If you used an agent you could be in trouble, or if the school didn't really hold classes. The extension of any ED visa now is looked at with a fine tooth comb. If there are any discrepancies then it won't be extended.
