Is it possible to get an education visa for learning Thai at the moment? How would I go about getting one? I want to join my girlfriend who lives and works in Bangkok. Do I have to write to language schools or universities in Bangkok?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The possibility of obtaining an education visa (ED visa) for learning Thai at a language school in Bangkok currently seems limited. Based on recent community insights, it is generally understood that ED visas are primarily available for university programs, rather than language schools. Some language schools might offer ED visas, particularly due to pandemic-related exceptions, but this is more commonly reported in Chiang Mai than Bangkok. For those interested in studying at a university, many Thai universities provide international programs that can facilitate an ED visa. If seeking an education visa for a language course, contacting universities like Chiang Mai University or specific language schools directly could provide more detailed information.

, your best, and probably only option, would be if you can transfer from Hyundai India to Hyundai Motors Thailand. You might also try talking to members of the India/Thai Chamber of Commerce in Bangkok.

Many of the Thai universities have international programmes. You can do a Masters in just about any subject you are interested in and they will provide an ED visa for you. The actual studying will be a piece of piss compared to what you are used to in Germany.

Yes, possibly, but not at a language school. Contact Chiang Mai University. They have classes.

Yes there are several schools that offer an education visa while you are still in Thailand. Pandemic exceptions I guess 😉

I see most of them in Chiang Mai tho not sure about BKK

no ED Visas abroad for language schools - muay thai ... only ED for study at Universities right now -
Samira *********
As far as I know, no ED viasas allowed in
Michael ********
Yep
@Darren ******
is absolutely correct ED visas were allowed in for University and International school kids but as both of those have already started for the year no more.

It specifically states on a lot of embassy website not for Language/Muay Thai/Meditation schools.

I think they have to sign up to universities but as the university semester has started I'm not sure they're being issued.

Where are you now?

@Ko**
he won't get in on that basis. If he has an actual job offer he will but they are not going to entertain secret companies that the applicant isn't going to tell them about, this is just ridiculous.
Kool *******
@Ivan ***********
, considering it's the only option he has short of getting an Elite visa, it is worth a try, as any Thai embassy has the power to make entry exceptions, as they see fit, and it will not cost him anything to try, so why not try.
Ivan ************
This won't work, he'd need an actual job offer and the all the documentation around that to support a visa application. Can't tell you who the employer is, super secret, but let me in, to a consulate? Are you mad?
Kool *******
@Ivan ***********
, he's not trying to get a type B visa, so does not need a job offer. He is trying to come in to formally learn to speak, and write Thai. There is no job offer needed, and never has been to do that. And, every embassy has the power to make exceptions for entry.
Michael ********
Uhm check your embassy website it will say ED visa only for University Students and for international school students only
Kool *******
@Michael *******
, and universities have programs teaching Thai, so what's your point, that he might have to wait until next semester?
Michael ********
@Kool ******
it will not happen i will bogging bet you. I have been outside and came in so went to embassy outside is big sign about no ED visa as loads of people were wasting embassies time
Kool *******
@Michael *******
, if he doesn't try, as you recommend, then yes, there is absolutely no chance of it happening, but, if he does try, and he actually does have the background to pull it off, there is a very slim possibly it could work, as any Thai embassy can make exceptions, but you are right, without trying it will never work.
Michael ********
@Kool ******
Honestly they had signs outside Singapore embassy telling people to not even bother trying they were handwritten. embassy staff had had enough I did not recomend trying.
Kool *******
@Michael *******
, and he is in Germany, so what is outside the Singapore embassy has no relevance does it. You should know by now that every embassy does not interpret the rules the same way, and, they can always make exceptions if they want. You want him to not even try, and I say try. What has he got to loose by trying? It is not as though they would ban him from any future attempt at entering.

@Kool ******
uhmm i was member of group farangs stranded abroad and read other posts its the same worldwide. Go check German Thai embassy website.

Just wasting embassy staff time.

I work for a food importer and I have a degree in import/export, so that should be plausible.
Kool *******
@Christian ********
, if they ask you why don't you study and learn in Germany, simply say "you know it is best to learn in Thailand to make sure I learn correct formal Thai". This just might workv with your background, and if you are under 50 years old.

Thank you very much! I will ask them this.
Kool *******
@Christian ********
, every Thai embassy has the power to make exceptions, and if you are sincere, they very possibly could let you enter. It is a long shot at this time, but worth a try, as it doesn't cost anything to ask, but, if they think you are just coming to see your girlfriend, they will turn you down at this time.

@Kool ******
Thanks for the tip! I actually want to learn Thai by the way, but that's because of her of course.
Kool *******
@Christian ********
, if they want to know what job you would need to learn Thai for, tell them a company exporting out of Thailand, but that is all you can say.

, contact the Thai embassy, and ask them about studying Thai in Bangkok, and ask them for suggestions on how to do it, but, do not tell them about your girlfriend. Tell them a potential job in the future would require you learning to speak and read formal Thai. Do not tell them which company out of privacy concerns. You will need to pay for 14 days of quarantine, US$100,000 of insurance that covers covid-19, in order to get a certificate of entry from the embassy, if they help you, and approve you for entry, after you also contact a formal language school, and pay for 160 hours of lessons in order to get your ED extensions while you go to school, as the visa must be extended every 90 days with the documents the school gives you. You can do this for up to three years, as long as you go to school. If you do not go to school, then 90 days, if the Thai embassy allows you to enter. Most ligitimate schools cost around US$1000. Some are cheaper, some more expensive, but, with this virus, many are not open. Good luck. It will cost you around US$4000 just to get here, and finish quarantine.
