TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to obtain a certificate of residence with a DTV visa. However, it's important to note that in Bangkok, you need to complete a 90-day report to qualify for the certificate, while other provinces may not have this requirement. Additionally, you'll need to prepare several documents besides just a copy of your visa to obtain the certificate from immigration.

Oh, really? Interesting. Never thought about that. Is that possible online after the first report or is it always in person?

If you are in Bangkok you’d need to have done a 90 day report in order to get a residence certificate. In other provinces you don’t have that requirement.

You can get a certificate of residence with a DTV. You need several docs though to get one from the immigration aside from a copy of your visa.
