I'm from the UK and my next visit to Thailand is next month.
I'm trying it get an International Driving Permit before I fly out.
The UK Government website says I need a 1968 but I know that doesn't have a thai translation in it. (I got one in the past and then was stopped by a Thai policeman and told it was "No Good! 300 baht" )
Some web searches are saying a 1949 but I have not seen one to confirm if it has a thai translation.
I have a question regarding the Certificate of Residence. Is it possible to obtain a Certificate of Residence while my visa/status is still under consideration (I have an “under consideration” stamp)?
I’m planning to buy a car, so I need to know if this will be an issue.
Hello everyone, I’m hoping to retire in Thailand at the end of the year all being well you’re answered some of my questions before about visas thank you I was just wondering if I do a 12 month extension. Can I use my English driving license to drive a car and a motorcycle or do I have to do a Thai driving test because I will not have an address in UK but my license will have a UK address on it which I will not live there cause I will of sold it
Has anyone gotten a certificate of residence to purchase a car on the DTV visa? I read that bangkok immigration won’t give me one. Anyone have any insight on the matter? Thanks.
Simple process of extending my license in Udon Thani myself. Agent's are asking silly money for what is essentially a couple of hours work.
Asked my guesthouse/hotel for copy of TM30. Went to the new immigration by the lake.office. Had 2 months remaining but old passport has been lost.
Very friendly people at the office. Printed out every single entry in and out of Thailand and put the info with an official letter linking my new passport. I didn't ask for this to be done along with the 2 letters for the licence.
Driving licence office. Limited English with my limited Thai. Showed a copy of the QR code for online learning. Loads of photocopies of everything, old passport, DTV etc. After about 45 minutes 5 year's provided. Can't remember the exact amount but I think ฿1200.
Initially I went to the wrong office but they checked everything and made more photocopies and sectioned everything off. Ignore agent's wanting silly money saying it's difficult. Overall I came across very friendly people during the simple process.
My friend got his first 2 year exchanging UK licence at the same time. No IDP required.
Today i extended my car and motorcycle license in Krabi at the Provincial Transport Office.
I got a 2 years extension. (Tried to convince her to give me 5 years but was not possible. I think it might depend on the person you happen to go through)
Booked an appointment online via DLT Smartqueue app. There was a lot of availability to my surprise. No weeks long waiting…overall it took 2.5 hours today from parking lot to hold my new licenses in my hands. I could have saved 1 hour if i would have watched the 1 hour long video online before…. But it wasnt in the written requirements. so yeah, i had to sit and watch a thai video and wait 😀 I recommend watching it beforehand. DLT Learning website, need to register and sign in.
Cost:
310 Baht for both licenses (200+100+5+5)
150 Baht for medical certificate (local doctor)
Additionaly i needed a certificate of residence which you get from the Immigration Office. This one i got for free (20mins effort at IO).
I had 2 copies each:
- Passport biodata
- Passport last entry stamp page
- Medical Certificate
- Certificate of Residence
+ old licenses and original passport
also provided my visa printout but wasnt required.
Had to go through the quick reaction and vision test. Easy.
In the end a very easy and pretty quick process. Same steps like when you get a new license / convert home license and IDP to thai license.
