Did my OA extension of stay in Chaeng Watthana Division 1 in Bangkok today and was successful in getting my passport stamp for another year in the Kingdom. It went pretty smooth, with minor hiccups. This was my first extension and I thought about getting an agent but decided to do it on my own. I’m glad I did because I saved a lot of money and learned a lot with the process. Immigration was actually very helpful by copying some forms that I forgot to. Just posting to let people know it’s not that hard to do, just do some research and see what you need to bring to your particular office.

I’m seeking advice or insights from anyone who may have gone through a similar situation.

I’ve been living and working in Thailand for the past 17 years as a university instructor. I’m a U.S. citizen and have held a valid work permit and visa throughout my time here.

Recently, I officially obtained Thai citizenship through my mother, who is Thai by birth. I now have my Thai National ID card and have submitted all necessary documents to my workplace so that my employment records are now under my Thai ID instead of my U.S. passport.

Here’s where I’m unsure:

My current work permit and visa (issued under my U.S. passport) are valid until October 2025. I asked my employer what I need to do about closing or canceling them, and they told me I don’t need to do anything—that I should just let them expire since I’m now legally Thai.

That doesn’t sound quite right to me. I feel like there should be some formal process to close out the old visa and work permit under my foreign passport. I’m worried that “doing nothing” might leave a loose end or even a negative mark in the immigration system, especially if I ever need to re-enter Thailand in the future using my U.S. passport (just hypothetically).

Has anyone here been through this process or have advice on what steps I should take? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I came into Thailand this past Monday via Giant Ibis (American with US Passport) and got 'stamped in' by Thai Immigration at Poipet on my passport. If I fly out of BKK to Cambodia will I also get 'stamped out'?

The reason I am asking is that I had heard/read that with new scanner technology they no longer use actual stamps. I am afraid of creating a scenario where future border crossongs (i.e. into Laos) won't see any Thai Immigration stamp and refuse me entry. That has actually happened recently to someone on another FB group.

THANKS for any help!

I applied for the DTV and paid the fee a few days ago. How long until I hear a response? Will they email me or do I have to login onto their portal to check?

Hey everyone,

for those who were successful in getting a DTV for dental treatment, at which consulate did you apply and with which clinic?

I would like to get Invisalign done in Bangkok and I read that some people have gotten a DTV for it at certain consulates, but that at other consulates people have been rejected saying dental treatments don't count as medical treatment.

My alternative would be to just enter on a tourist visa or visa exempt, though I have been in Thailand ~4-5 months (on tourist visas and visa exempt stamps) every calendar year from 2021 to 2023 and I am worried about being denied entry the next time I fly to Bangkok (haven't been in Thailand for ~1.5 years now).

Is there a way to save your TDAC info for re-use? For regular re-entry its quite cumbersome to complete the whole form every time

I have obtained DTV in last year. My visa is sticker visa type. Now my passport is going to expire in coming December thus I would play new passport in my resident country. How do I transfer my dtv visa to New passport? TIA.
