Hi all!🤚 This is my first post and the question ❓️is very specific regarding the LTR visa. All I know is the info in the pic. What order do I take steps to get the visa? Suppose, I go to Thailand ✈️to open the bank account💰. How much money has to be in the account? What's the next step? What other documents do I need to prepare before flying to Thailand? Would 3 - 4 weeks be enough for obtaining the LTR visa before returning to England? We own a condo in Pattaya in case it makes a difference. Thank you all in advance, bullet points in the correct order would be much appreciated 😇🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for the Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa for Thailand, you can complete the entire process online without needing to fly to Thailand. Here’s a step-by-step guide: 1. Visit the BOI website for the LTR visa application. 2. Prepare required documents, including identification and financial proofs. 3. Depending on your application, additional KYC documents may be necessary. 4. Pay the visa fee (50,000 baht) either through the embassy or at the BOI office in Bangkok. 5. Wait for the endorsement letter, which is valid for 30-60 days. 6. Choose to apply for the visa online through the embassy with your endorsement or pick it up in person after an appointment in Bangkok. 7. Check if having a condo in Pattaya impacts your application positively. Typically, the entire process can take 1-3 months.

My application is still pending. From the agent I was requested lots of additional KYC like documents. I was told I needed to buy government bonds instead of Thai stocks. Good luck. Look forward hearing more about how it develops.

@Karsten ********
you do not have to buy anything. You need the money in your account or as your income.

he is likely applying for category other than retiree

what’s the current interest rate on Thai govt bonds? $500k USD?
Karsten *********
@Todd ********
They use an old exchange rate from last year. You need close to 600k usd. Is the current rate 2%? Must be valid for at least 5 additional years more. Is the Thai stock market currently on a 14 year low?
Todd *********
@Karsten ********
huh, that's a little annoying at near $600k. Be interesting to see if they change Jan 1. I'm not sure if it's 14 year low? Maybe, but i would far prefer to be invested in the SET than any bonds regardless

@Todd ********
I just read it today and if you have a 40K USD annual income, then you need to invest 250K USD into govt bonds OR Thai property.

80K USD requires no further investment.

(Wealthy pensioner category)

I'm fairly certain stocks do not qualify for LTR.

This is bs

@Kennys ****
how is it BS? I’ve got the visa as a wealthy pensioner. Cost me 50,000 baht and a few hours of my time at the office to get the stamps into my passport. I can even get a work permit for 3000 baht more IF I wanted to work.
Todd *********
@Kennys ****
lol. Nope

@Kennys ****
it’s good because no UK tax to pay
Ken *******
@Kennys ****
Yes its more than 50k!
Todd *********
@Ken ******
no Ken - it’s 50k for 10 years tax free multi-entry. Best visa Thailand has ever offered. And dirt cheap

Restrictions? must have millions ? why ppl not going for this? I done my yearly last month.

@Ken ******
for retirees, all you really need is $80k annual income. If you qualify, it's 100% the best visa. No tax. And never visit immigration office or bank for a decade.

@Ken ******
The LTR visa fee is 50k baht but the wealthy global citizen category has additional financial requirements.

You don't have to fly to Thailand at all if you don't want to.

The entire application process is online. You apply through the BOI on their website
**********************

The application process can take 1-3 months, depending on how complicated your situation is.

Once you are approved, you will receive an endorsement letter that is valid for 30 or 60 days, I forgot which one.

They will then ask you, do you want to apply for your visa through your Thai embassy online, or do you want to go to Bangkok to pickup the visa and have it applied into your passport?

If you want to get it from the embassy, you will apply online with your endorsement letter, and pay whatever your embassy charges, likely more than the 50,000 baht stated as the price. Your visa will then be a printed pdf document that you have to carry for 10 years along with your passport.

If you want to go to Bangkok to get it, you will need to make an appointment with the BOI to go into their office at One Bangkok and they will take you over to the immigration office where you will pay exactly 50,000 baht and receive the visa in your passport, so you won't have anything extra to carry around.

Thank you so much for sharing!

This is possibly one of the best responses I’ve read.

Would love it if you share other key topics in such a clear, concise way! This is great!

I am wondering doesn’t he need to buy Thai health insurance to get LTR visa approved?
Brandon ************
@Steven ******
No Thai health insurance required. Just insurance that meets the requirements, can be from anywhere. Or proof of $100,000 in the bank.

But this post is not about specific requirements. They haven't even started applying yet, so it's not relevant to the post.
