Switching from ED to DTV

Hello, my ED language visa is up in a few weeks and instead of extending I’d rather just get the DTV (muay thai)— I love my classes but just want the flexibility and longevity. Is this usually an easy switch and should I apply from the same embassy I did for ED (Hanoi) or a different one like Bali? Any advice much appreciated thank you

Report from Manila. Successful DTV application.

This is quite an unusual application I guess so thought to share.

I got my DTV from London about a month ago, I'm a UK citizen. My partner is from Philippines, she has just been granted a DTV too, application in Manila.

We are not married, and she has not got the funds in her account. I wrote a sponsorship letter and provided proof of our relationship (3 years, lots of photographs and history of communication). Both on soft power (cooking class in Chiang Mai), also sent lots of evidence of my time in Philippines (passport stamps), and copies of my finances.

Approved in 6 working days after request for some secondary info (not complicated).

Any questions then fire away. I'm happy to answer anything if it will help other people.

I applied the DTV and got rejected for a reason that seemed to be ridiculous. The reply said that my application was cancelled because when I input my name, there was one missing "-" and not exactly the same as that on my passport. Do you have similiar reject experience due to this kind of small typo difference? They took my money and kick me out just due to this easily correctable typo which I don't it can be classified as a mistake......

Anyone here had a successful self application applying DTV from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia? How long did you stay in KL and what was the process like - ) thank you. Also, does age matter - applicant is 21 years old.

I really need help understanding the soft power DTV. On re entry to thailand, what happens if ive used all of the package for the muay thai? Do I have to re apply for a new package each time I enter, within my 5 years?

Or will one package work for the full 5 years. I really cant explain what I mean 😅

I got my DTV approved today, applying from Hong Kong. A post here (which I think has been deleted unfortunately) really helped me with my application, so I’m paying it forward and detailing what I submitted.

I’m a solo trader, no clients, just an Interactive Brokers account. I aimed to be as detailed as possible in my application, and my professional portfolio ended up totaling 20 pages.

I included:

1. Declaration of Remote Work, saying that my work was all done online, and I would not have any business dealings in Thailand.

2. Evidence for Digital Tools, I included invoices and screenshots from TradingView, Notion and a market newsletter.

3. Summary of Professional Income, I explained my 2025 year to date profits on Interactive Brokers, including starting and balance, profits, and what I traded. My profits are well in excess of what is needed for the minimum amount in your bank account, which I stressed in the application.

4. Brief summary of my nomad lifestyle, I added two points for why Thailand - I’ve been learning Thai since February and am interested in meditation. I included screencaps of my Thai language learning online.

5. Cover Letter

6. CV

7. University graduation certificate

8. Trading Strategy Summary and Financial Statements (6 months)

9. Trading Strategy Sample (I had an offer for a hedge fund job in Hong Kong so I included a few screencaps of the work I did for them)

Note that I submitted 5-9 in the first batch, they requested more info so I submitted 1-4 to try and address their concerns.

My design was:

1. To be as professional as possible. All formatting was done professionally and with care. I ran everything through AI for typos and errors

2. To leverage on my professional and educational credentials as much as possible, because I was worried I had no clients/book of business

3. On my second submission, I wanted to make clear of the remote nature of my work, do a clearer summary of my financial income, and make myself human
