Hello, my ED language visa is up in a few weeks and instead of extending I’d rather just get the DTV (muay thai)— I love my classes but just want the flexibility and longevity. Is this usually an easy switch and should I apply from the same embassy I did for ED (Hanoi) or a different one like Bali? Any advice much appreciated thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The switch from an ED visa (Education) to a DTV visa (Diverse Visa) is generally considered easy. Many users suggest that after acquiring the DTV, you should obtain a letter from your educational institution confirming the completion of your studies to formally close out the ED visa. It is recommended to apply for the new visa at the same embassy (e.g., in Hanoi) if possible, but other locations like Bali could be used as well.
I switched my kids from ed to dtv. Their ed was cancelled before we applied for the dtv. As someone said above, if you can do it after, then I would go with that. It was an easy switch. I much prefer their dtv than the ed. It's much more convenient
It's a very easy switch. After you get your DTV make sure to get a letter from your school saying that you are finished with your studies so you can bring that letter to immigration and formally close out your ED visa. It takes your school about a week to get the letter. Bring it with your passport and copies of your passport pages and you'll be done in a few hours. That's what I did
