I'm currently in Thailand on business visa, and I'd love a second opinion on my situation regarding the DTV.

My business visa / work permit expires early next year. I've been self-employed for 8 years in my home country.

My government hasn't issued last year's tax return yet. However, I do have official confirmation showing I've been self-employed since 2016, plus I can provide one of my yearly client contracts. Could even provide last years one as well if needed.

I have the required funds in my bank for well over 6 months, so that's covered. My plan is to find a certified translation company (in Thailand or my home country) to translate all the necessary documents to english or thai: my bank statement, contract, and the confirmation of self-employment.

From my research, it seems like applying in Yangon or Jakarta might be the quickest and safest options for me. I’m planning to apply there, then return to Thailand the next day on my business visa. If approved, I’ll cancel my work permit and re-enter on the DTV.

Experiences whether this works out, different country or if I missed something are much appreciated 👏

Has anyone recently gotten a police clearance certificate from the Police Clearance Service Center in Bangkok? I’m planning to apply for one on my last day before leaving, just to have it ready in advance for future needs.

Last time, they were ridiculously bureaucratic about the "country of destination." They insisted on an official request from that country, even though I was just proactively gathering documents and hadn’t submitted my application yet. Classic catch-22. In the end, we compromised by listing my home country.

I’m pretty sure I’ll run into the same issue this time. If I’m moving to Australia and need the certificate for work, education, or whatever else, they'll probably demand an official request from some authority again, which makes no sense. If I've lived in Thailand for a prolonged period, I should be able to get criminal clearance information in advance. I could potentially miss out on opportunities just because someone wants to waste time in their office doing nothing.

My partner, a Thai national, had a similar problem recently. We tried to get her certificate ahead of time for a visa application. After speaking with them prior, they said it’d be simple—just bring her ID and a few other docs. But when she flew to Bangkok, they suddenly required an official request from the Australian Home Affairs office. Ridiculous! Waste of a flight. So instead of getting it done, we had to wait for Australia Home Affairs to request it, before providing one, delaying her entire visa process.

Most countries I’ve dealt with let you apply easily and get the certificate within a day or two online, or a physical within a week. Thailand, on the other hand, feels completely outdated, like I need permission from my feudal master as if I’m a peasent just to get a basic police certificate. It’s absurd.

I was working in a particular school after 1 month l am changing schools. Does the work permit get changed to the other school like a transfer . Or does the process start all again. Visa and WP cancelled and have ti leave the country and come back.

We've decided to stay there for longer than two weeks and travel. Our return flight is dated for 26/11...

I'm applying for tourist visa now, but I've not changed the return flight dates. Does the date of return ticket matter? I'm not sure whether to leave it as it is, or simply buy ticket to Laos. Already lost some money, but I'd prefer to have peace of mind especially with tourist visa.

For freelancers applying for DTV, does anyone know what should be submitted for “employment contract” since the nature of freelancers is that we don’t have them?

Also, some professions don’t have portfolios like a designer or coder would. Does anyone have success in substituting with another doc?

The Taipei embassy's website lists the following requirements for a workcation visa:

* *An official employment contract (with an employer residing abroad and no income generated in Thailand),

OR*

* *An official employment certificate (with an employer registered abroad),

OR*

* *A professional portfolio demonstrating status as a digital nomad, remote worker, foreign talent, or freelancer,

OR*

* *An invitation or acceptance letter to participate in the mentioned activities.*

I have a few questions for anyone who has applied through the Taipei embassy:

1. Is providing one of these documents sufficient for approval?

2. If applying with an official employment certificate, what details need to be included? Is a signature and company stamp enough?

3. For freelancers, can I create my portfolio independently? Are there any specific requirements regarding the number of jobs?

4. Were there any additional documents requested during the process?

DTV soft power question. Does anyone have experience or has been approved on the DTV through a language school? Ive seen alot of approvals from muay thai schools. Again Thai embassies have contradicting feedback. Your feedback would be much appreciated.
