What are the steps and considerations for applying for a DTV visa from Thailand while on a business visa?

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm currently in Thailand on business visa, and I'd love a second opinion on my situation regarding the DTV.

My business visa / work permit expires early next year. I've been self-employed for 8 years in my home country.

My government hasn't issued last year's tax return yet. However, I do have official confirmation showing I've been self-employed since 2016, plus I can provide one of my yearly client contracts. Could even provide last years one as well if needed.

I have the required funds in my bank for well over 6 months, so that's covered. My plan is to find a certified translation company (in Thailand or my home country) to translate all the necessary documents to english or thai: my bank statement, contract, and the confirmation of self-employment.

From my research, it seems like applying in Yangon or Jakarta might be the quickest and safest options for me. I’m planning to apply there, then return to Thailand the next day on my business visa. If approved, I’ll cancel my work permit and re-enter on the DTV.

Experiences whether this works out, different country or if I missed something are much appreciated 👏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently in Thailand on a business visa and is considering applying for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) while planning to use a certified translation service for necessary documents. Their situation includes having a self-employment confirmation and funds in the bank, but they are unsure about applying in neighboring countries like Yangon or Jakarta without losing their business visa status during the application process.

Umm thats gonna be a fail right out of the gate at those two consulates because they're walk up, apply, pay GIVE your passport to them consulates and wait in that country until you go back to get the passport with the visa in it

Once you apply at either of those consulates you won't have a passport to come back to thailand on until you pick it back up after the processing time for the visa 😮

Oh I thought they just hand out approval in paperform? Is there another country you would recommend where that would work?

My biggest worry is cancelling my current visa and then not getting approved for whatever reason

you wouldn't be the first person to apply for the DTV with a valid visa/extension in your passport.

You'd just have to make sure you get stamped in on the DTV when you come back into the country (if it was approved)

Then cancel your work permit at the Ministry of Labour and go cancel the Non-B extension at the immigration office that issued it

People do it "out of sequence" like that all the time

Oh that sounds great actually. I read a few comments in the past that stated a work permit has to be properly cancelled before another visa can be used. If that's not the case that's even better. If you don't mind me asking, would you also say that Jakarta or Yangon would be my best choices currently?

sorry that's a choice you have to make yourself,

You need an appt to get in the gate at Yangon, and they only release 2 weeks of appt at a time, everything is booked up until they open another day appts at midnight

Jakarta or Taipei would be the places to go, those are show up apply consulates
