Hello!

For freelancers applying for DTV, does anyone know what should be submitted for “employment contract” since the nature of freelancers is that we don’t have them?

Also, some professions don’t have portfolios like a designer or coder would.  Does anyone have success in substituting with another doc?

I suppose you have contractor agreements with the companies you consult for, you could submit these and hide the parts that you don't want to share

Generally you should be registered somewhere to work as a freelancer, here in Czechia I have a trading licence that I will submit to prove I'm an IT consultant, since I don't have a portfolio as I don't produce apps or websites, I work behind the scenes for some customers

yes, that I have of course. I have a business registered in the Netherlands, but the requirements state they want a portfolio and employment contract.

My customers would certainly not allow me to present a contract for security and confidentiality reasons, and I’m self employed

I think a cover letter explaining everything should do the trick, I prepared one since I will submit 4 bank accounts but I will also explain there's no portfolio as they expect, not all freelancers have products they sell or make, there are services that we provide and it could be silly to make a list of companies we worked with but maybe also that could be something to mention in the cover letter, supported with invoices to show you worked for those companies (I will do that also, list of clients with invoices).

thanks Greg. Other than a website, most cybersecurity firms don’t do that type of content (we privately consult and clients want confidentiality for audit etc)

Also have you heard successful approaches for freelancers without contracts ?

you have a business registration? You can ask 2-3 clients if its ok to share the agreement you have with them. Also emails between you and the clients showing they are your actual clients. Describe your business with them from A to Z with examples and proof. Add some paid invoices as well.

yes, business registration for sure. Although I’m not sure the Dutch embassy will provide a stamp like the Thai consulate asks for

That is a specialist area. I also thought Cybersecurity firms did not like "Remote" working though?

“firms” may not, but there are large networks of auditors and independent consultants that only work remote 😉
