most likely a Malaysian passport. It is not that we dont have a first name. We do, but the MRZ in malaysian passports read everything (the entire name) as a last name. Really inconvenient when filling things out like visa applications 😩
names are very very tricky, esp with our malaysian passports who reads the whole name as a family name. It just seemed so weird! I called up the embassy we are applying from and have been told to enter our names the ‘correct’ way, instead of lumping the whole name into ‘family name’. Really keeping our fingers crossed for our applications in a couple weeks.
Anonymous participant 697 yes this would be the universal way to do it. What im concerned is, the final page for submission will read LO JOHN JUI SUNG.
Whereas on the machine readable part of the passport reads
JOHN LO JUI SUNG.
Might this be considered a mismatch? Worried it might be the computers screening thru instead of humans
Anonymous participant 624 im sorry i dont quite understand about the immigration office adheres to JPN detail 😌 oh forgot to ask where did u apply from?
i typed in my name
GENEVIEVE as first name
LO as last name
The final page appeared as LO GENEVIEVE, and my passport is the other way around.
Did yours turn out like that too? And it was accepted?
Anonymous participant 624 it will appear the other way round from our malaysian passports right? Also, where did u place the chinese names if u have any
hello there, i hope you can give me some guidance on this name question as well. at the end of the form before we click submit, is there a page where we go through all the details once more? So that we can see names must match our passport. And does this means it must be in the exact same order? My husbands name is John Lo Jui Sung. Lo is the family name. So it should not be shown as Lo John Jui Sung (because some systems show the family name first), in which case if it does, we’ll have to rearrange it? In his malaysian passport, it shows just ‘name’ as John Lo Jui Sung. So sorry for the long question. We’ll be applying next month and reading up posts, seems his malaysian-chinese name is a little complicated to fill in. Thanks for any help at all 🙏🏼
