Anonymous participant 197 And used to have a long term visa, the probabilities you can open a new one with your DTV are almost inexistant.

Definitely. And they will surely not cancel the DTV for an active holder (except misbehavior). What they can do is issue additional regulations (those not already covered by existing rules).

Yes agree, that's what I say in my direct reply to OP. You're flexible. 👍

The extension requirements were published months after the issuance of the first DTVs so changes (in the form of added rules) can also be applied to existing holders (MFA Vs Immigration); and we all know how these made an extension almost impossible. Yes they would probably not reconsider the 5 years granted but other changes are possible. While this is not common for older visas it is possible for newer ones such as the DTV.

DTV is a great visa for some people who didn’t fit other categories before, definitely. But when it launched, it was marketed by some people in the group here as the ultimate flexible visa with easy extensions, bank accounts, 5-year driving licenses, etc. The reality is that things have moved toward restriction, not flexibility. Bank accounts are hard or impossible to open, some are even being closed, extensions are nearly impossible (and requirements got published months AFTER the issuance of the first DTVs), and now they apparently require a bank account you can’t get. Driving licenses can be limited to 2 years instead of 5 (depending on office). So yes, good for some flexible people, but far from a full benefits guaranteed long-term solution. Be aware of that and play it safe.

Yes, and things tend to move more toward restriction than flexibility here.

And no bank account, very low chance to renew it with immigration, almost compulsory 180 days exit, etc. That's a global package 😜

Please describe privileged!😅 No bank account, extensions with immigration are almost impossible (in the most recent news, they now require a bank account that you can’t even get?!), you must exit every 180 days, only a 2 year driver’s license in some office. And we have been discovering more and more limitations over time, not the other way around. I mean, yes, it’s a great visa if you want to stay here for some time, but presenting yourself as a privileged, well yeah not really. 😅
