, if he can get an education visa inside Thailand, it will not "buy him another year".

Maximum stay with ED visa and extensions is 1 year from the date he entered Thailand

@Janin *****
, you are confusing an extension of stay with a re-entry permit.

A multiple re-entry permit AND an extension will cost 5700 baht.

Tm87 is the form for application of an in-country non-immigrant visa after arrival on visa exemption.

As others have mentioned, the form for extension of stay is Tm7

"Under consideration-stamps" are for extensions, not for visas.

So that's normal

, no, nothing special to consider.

But when you return be sure to put the number of the re-entry permit on your arrival card (TM6).

Be aware that the screenshot is from a commercial website, not from Thai Immigration.

And for using an agency, well, they're not interested in you using an affadvit from your embassy.

FYI

You will need to apply for CoE from the country of departure.

Not the country of your passport.

, that could in deed be misunderstood.

There is no such thing as a "Non-O yearly extension".

It would be a 1 year extension for the reason of retirement.

This could be done from any non-immigrant visa – not only category O or O-A.
