a quick Google search would tell you the Thai Embassy in Bali was open today until noon and reopens at 9:00a.m tomorrow. Their plan is sound and I'm doing something similar in January.

I just feel it's a better choice for me to self insure. It may not be the best decision for everyone. My experience tells me I've been right so far. If I had to shell out a million I wouldn't be losing much if anything?

I've been traveling to Thailand every year for almost 30 years and never once would I have used insurance if I had it to use. Many and possibly most people can afford to self insure.
