Used to be the same in the US: you could apply for the OA but not the O. Now that the e-visa has arrived, nearly all visas can be obtained at a Thai embassy. I believe the same holds true worldwide.
This sounds a bit strange to me. 15 years ago, my wife faced a similar situation. We took the embassy list to Bumrungrad. They looked it over & said all we needed was the DTP (3 shots) & MMR (2 shots). If I remember correctly, each visit cost us about 2k baht. We didn’t have the necessary time left to get the third DTP, but it didn’t seem to matter. We did a direct filing with the DHS & my wife got her visa on time. Six months later, she got her third DPT at the Fresno County Department of Community Health.
American banks typically provide lower exchange rates during international transfers than Bangkok Bank does. I tested this once in May of 2022 by transferring $1,000 twice, back-to-back. For the first one I asked USAA to transfer in baht. That yielded 33,367 baht two days later. The second transfer was in dollars. Also two days later, it produced 34,260 baht, roughly 900 baht better.
Not sure why you’re sending me this link. My comments were based on what happens or can happen in Thailand, regardless of UK or any other country’s laws.
IMO, this would be risky. I’m not a lawyer, but I know Thai courts nearly always side with Thai wife over farang. Should your wife follow you back to Thailand & challenge your claim in a Thai court, you’re probably going to lose. Also, though I’m sure your ex is not like this, many if not most disillusioned wives & exes have Thai family that can make you disappear.
Don’t know what to say. Guess I have more of a positive disposition than you do. Chatting with you has helped me to believe I have finally, successfully removed myself from the matrix.
