The Thai side is open, but not the Burmese border, so you can't do a border run for the time being...

To open a bank account comes with zero fees!!!

What the banks want from you is to take out one of their insurances. This is nothing short of blackmailling you into wasting so much money.

An agent might get you a bank account at less than that, but their "fees" vary.

In general a visa is issued outside the country. What you can get inside Thailand is an extension of an existing visa.

The Non-Im "O" meanwhile requires a health insurance, the extension e.g. as retiree in Thailand does not require it.

For Tourist and Non-Immigrant visas you will need it.

But you will definitely need it for yourself!
