TLDR : Answer Summary
In response to a question about the best city for a one-day trip out of Thailand to obtain a 30-day visa stamp, several options were suggested by the community. Kuala Lumpur and Penang emerged as popular choices due to low flight costs and visa exemptions for many nationalities. Other recommended destinations included Siem Reap and Vientiane, with assorted comments about the experiences, costs, and travel logistics involved. The conversation also highlighted the potential risks and requirements, suggesting that travelers consider booking flights that allow for same-day returns to avoid complications with Thai immigration.

totally normal price, it includes the long trip (385 kilometers one way!), a lunch, the visa fee for Myanmar and the boat transfer to the Casino and back. It takes 10 hours. You could do a "border run" from Pattaya to Cambodia with an agent for around 3600.- THB, though. You could try it yourself but be warned you might get stranded in Cambodia

depending from where you fly. I heard it is not possible to fly to Siem Reap for one day, they make you stay at least 24 hours. Only flight to Kuala Lumpur will allow you to turn around and fly back on the same day. Where in Thailand are you staying?

ok, then you could fly to Vientiane or Kuala Lumpur for a border run. Malaysia is visa free but you need to fill out the online MDAC. Laos ist 40.- US Dollar visa-on-arrival fee

Depends where u are. kl you can do without leaving the airport. Just go through customs, walk to departures and fly back. Cambodia insist on 24 hours, Siem reap used to be nice. It you are north you can do border runs with buses. Vientiane is fun. Has a very cool sunset bar on the river. Flights there are super expensive.

Kuala Lumpur. Many daily flights. Can take the late evening flight out and then the morning flight if you require overnight stay.

Also, once at KLIA2, easy to connect with subway train or bus to either KL Sentral, or Putrajaya [i think] which you can take buses to penang and go onwards back into Thailand.
