TLDR : Answer Summary
The Mae Sai border is not currently open to foreigners for exit and re-entry into Thailand. Alternatives for border runs include traveling to Laos via the Chiang Khong or Chiang Saen crossings, as the Mae Sai border has faced multiple closures due to various political and social circumstances.

Go to Chiang Kong/Huay Xai Thai - Lao Friendship Bridge #4 crossing instead.

No. The nearest land border where you could do a border bounce, is going to Laos by boat in Chiang Saen, at the Golden Triangle, to Laos

Not true, you can cross at the bridge near Chiang Khong much easier.

however, if you live in Chiang Mai and start from there, Chiang Khong is indeed much closer!

January 10th, 2023 -posted in another group: "You can also do a border run from Sop Ruak ("Golden Triangle") by boat across the river to Laos. Friend of mine confirmed this with Chiang Saen immigration and will be doing that next week. There is immigration there for your exit/entry stamps and you can buy a Lao visa on arrival on the other side"

depends on where she is right now, have a look on the map- I reckon she is near Tachilek/Mae Sai. Then the Chiang Saen border is closer than Chiang Khong/Huay Xai . . . . it's double the distance to Chiang Khong

Laurence. Your miss interpretation off the mark. What is your point. We are talking about 2 separate things. Educate yourself. Or learn to iisten. I am talking about the boarder. Because last time on a boarder run to Malaysia they hassled people for not staying there. Now you get it. ?.??

The Thai side is open, but not the Burmese border, so you can't do a border run for the time being...
