ORIGINAL POSTER
Hi Ho, this is not a Visa question. This is a bank question. Does anyone know how I can get a bank account in Pattaya at a good price? I have been quoted 10,500 for opening a bank account. Surely there must be someone who is cheaper than thisI am I am a UK citizen. I have a new 30 day stamp for Visa. I just want to open an account so I can put money in when I go back to England so I can get my retirement Visa

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster seeks to open a bank account in Pattaya but finds the price quoted at 10,500 THB exorbitant. Several commenters suggest alternative options, including hiring an agent for around 4,000 to 5,000 THB, as doing it independently may be challenging without the right visa. Users recommend specific services like MOT Services and provide insights on the necessary documents, such as a certificate of residence and proof of visa status. Others advise to be cautious of banks requiring insurance policies for account opening. There are mixed experiences shared regarding the ease of opening an account based on the type of visa.

I opened a Bangkok account in Chiang Rai last November which took about 30 minutes, I can't remember if I had to show proof of an address in Thailand or not apart from my passport.

I did have an issue when I returned and the London branch couldn't help as there systems are not connected with Thailand believe it or not!

It's succumbing to extortion but:

Bangkok Bank, buy a 6000 baht insur policy

Or just visit branches, one will open account free...be patient

I got my O-A visa without having a bank account in Thailand. I just had to show that I had THB 800,000 equivalent available in my UAE bank account. I sent you a PM with details.

Just phoned B.B. UK. You can't open an account in UK that can be used in Thailand. The UK and Thai branches are not linked!

There are some advantages of getting an account at a local branch to where you live. If you have non O 90 day it should be easier. Keep trying. I even went to the same branch of Bangkok Bank 4 times in a month before they said yes and I refused their insurance.

If you’re on a long stay (Non O) visa you should manage to open a bank account yourself. If you’re on a tourist visa or visa exemption it’s not easy, tough I know someone managed to do so on a tourist visa in Bangkok Bank Soi Buakhau recently. If you have any problems I’ll recommend
@Nan *********
. She will fix everything quite easily and it’s worth it for further use. I have Bangkok Bank and Krungthai myself. Both works very well.

To open a bank account comes with zero fees!!!

What the banks want from you is to take out one of their insurances. This is nothing short of blackmailling you into wasting so much money.

An agent might get you a bank account at less than that, but their "fees" vary.
