I hate Bangkok too, Only going there for as short a time as possible when land in November to get measured for some short sleeved shirts at a place know and see if I can persuade them to make some washable shorts for me. Too big now, too buy easily. then its down to the Dark Side of Pattaya to visit a Jersey friend then on to visit another Jersey friend 20 Km south of Pattaya. Then its fly up country to relax and have a first no obligation site visit with the builder I am thinking of using for our new build. He is English with a Thai team that lives on site and with the land wants to pile the house first as he does with all of his builds. He is more expensive than local relatives but he speaks English, seems to know what he is talking about and was able to give me an estimate for what I wanted which sounded about right by email. Next stage is to get the land surveyed, registered, plans drawn and agree a firm price and for exactly what I want.

I think you should be OK with all those documents. Have known others get through with less. Do they give you an answer on the spot? And collect the visa in a few days. Or give you an answerer over the phone ( we had a couple of days wait for our sons a few years back while they had Jersey Immigration check or our accommodation then collected in 7 days? When we flew over to hand in my sons application, we arrived the day after the Tsunami, the Embassy was closed and all staff were understandably down on the coast. We held up in a Bangkok hotel/ appartment for a week before they reopened with an overwhelmed skeleton staff. They were very helpful though and informed us after a week for collection a week later. And my work let me have an extra weeks holiday so we could fly back with him. The London to Jersey air fair though, booked over the phone for three of us at short notice cost an arm and a leg !!!

Yeh but the may still give you a visa for 6 months. We were refused one once before we were married but Jai could not show enough of her own funds, a return ticket,or a good reason to come back, although I had offered financial support, and her young son was remaining in Thailand. Believe the now want evidence of travel health Insurance ? But not certain. it was a different storey once we were married. EEC Human Rights law played a part.

I do the same. take one of my tablets at 3:00 am have a cup of lemon and ginger tea and a quick look at facebook. My wife would kill me if I did not take my laptop out of the bedroom and use it quietly downstairs. She hates to be woken up !!!

Ah I did not know they have appointments now. We queued for ages for my wifes visa 15 years ago and then again three months later for her interview. I flew back for it as she did not want to go alone and was worried that she spoke little English. I was only allowed to sit in the back of the waiting room, all day. She would probably not have passed the English test I think the have to do at some stage now, or is it for indefinite leave to remain, which she got without problems two years later.

Tom Johnson Paul Clements. Looks like you are going to have to make a trip to the British Embassy in Bangkok to get your letter of proof of income in Wireless Road ( I can not spell the Thai name of the road but will try if you can not find it in that smart pickup of yours. Do you have a satnav ? If not I would park in any convenient hotel you find and take a cab in the morning. I think they open at 8 or 9 am but there is always a long queue by 7:30 am. There is a convenient hotel just opposite the Embassy, but I am afraid I do not remember its name. My Jersey friend who lives in Pattaya or his wife would know. I will ask him. Best of luck. I will be nearly in your shoes in a few hears time but my pension is zilch and now I am having to live for part of the year in Jersey and part in Thailand for medical reasons, similar to your a few years back money won't go as far as I had hoped !I will fly back for treatment in the UK and check ups in Jersey if I need it, but at least all my already expensive medication will be paid for for three months ( the longest my doctor is supposed to prescribe for). Wish you luck.
