TLDR : Answer Summary
To prove a monthly income of 40,000 baht for a Thai marriage visa extension, the main requirement is to provide documentation of income. This can typically include bank statements, pension statements, and rental agreements as proof of income. It is also necessary to obtain a confirmation letter from your embassy (the UK embassy in this case) verifying your income. The process to obtain this letter has changed and currently requires an appointment at the embassy, and can also be done by mail. Additional advice mentioned includes that income verification through the embassy often doesn't require extensive scrutinization.

The affidavit of income from abroad notaries from the UK consulate are ONLY done by mail now. You can't walk in and get one.

The link provided by
@Ric****
, in your previous post tells you how to do it via mail.

Thats the reason im going to the British Embassy next week appointment booked I dont even need this till the end of september but too many conflicting stories Some say you have to go Some say do by post Some say go que up Some say make an appoint ment Some say you gotta have a letter from your pension provider Some say you cant just use bankstatements Some say you can use anything that proves your income per month Some say you can only apply buy post but ive just filled the form out for an appointment for them to view my details in person Confused i am
Jonathan *************
you MAY need official statement of pension from UK pension authorities--that's what i used, but perhaps bank statements OK,i don't know
Jonathan *************
it's on british embassy website--you can ONLY apply by post, i have heard (unconfirmed) that the FIRST time you use the income letter (a new one is needed each year) you need to get it certified at Foreign Ministry. I didn't, nor for the second one in Jan this year, in Hua Hin.
Mike *******
Don't need to go embassy.just post everything there.with proper paperwork sheet. And debit card details.
Ian *********
Had a Brit friend do this recently and he had to do additional step of getting Embassy letter certified in Chiang Whattana

Thanks Tod seems easy enough

@Paul *********
The UK consulate is pretty easy as far as what they require as proof to write the letter for you. Just submit the documentation you have and fill out the form about it. They'll just write you receive income of xxx pounds per month which equals yyy pounds a year..

Tod are 6mths bank statements showing i have more than enough money coming in every mth enough on their own

@I**
, Go figure :O they're one of the few consulates who make people show they actually have the money that's written in the notary letter :/
Ian *********
Only heard of it needed by Brits

@Ian ********
A good friend just got his yearly extension of stay from the Hua Hin Immigration office using the affidavit of income from abroad from the US consulate and he did NOT need to get the MFA stamp on it. They accepted the consulate notary letter just fine.
Ian *********
Off course. Why would they be the same. Hua Hin does
Tod *********
@I**
, That wasn't for getting an extension here in Bangkok. There are a couple immigration offices that make you get the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stamp on your consulate notary BUT bangkok is not one of them.
Ian *********
After confirmation letter he had to get THAT letter certified. It seems only applicable to Brits. He is in Hua Hin and he didn't want to go to BKK so had a lawyer do it. She sent someone to BKK

Just wondering, once someone has the Non Imm O how long does the process of getting the extension of stay based on marriage take?

I should be good to get the Non Imm O next week but I'll need to go back to work on the 13th July....

Ah I did not know they have appointments now. We queued for ages for my wifes visa 15 years ago and then again three months later for her interview. I flew back for it as she did not want to go alone and was worried that she spoke little English. I was only allowed to sit in the back of the waiting room, all day. She would probably not have passed the English test I think the have to do at some stage now, or is it for indefinite leave to remain, which she got without problems two years later.

Tom Johnson Paul Clements. Looks like you are going to have to make a trip to the British Embassy in Bangkok to get your letter of proof of income in Wireless Road ( I can not spell the Thai name of the road but will try if you can not find it in that smart pickup of yours. Do you have a satnav ? If not I would park in any convenient hotel you find and take a cab in the morning. I think they open at 8 or 9 am but there is always a long queue by 7:30 am. There is a convenient hotel just opposite the Embassy, but I am afraid I do not remember its name. My Jersey friend who lives in Pattaya or his wife would know. I will ask him. Best of luck. I will be nearly in your shoes in a few hears time but my pension is zilch and now I am having to live for part of the year in Jersey and part in Thailand for medical reasons, similar to your a few years back money won't go as far as I had hoped !I will fly back for treatment in the UK and check ups in Jersey if I need it, but at least all my already expensive medication will be paid for for three months ( the longest my doctor is supposed to prescribe for). Wish you luck.
Ken *******
Best of luck Paul there's a cheap hotel we have stayed in 5 minutes up the same road as the Embassy called the Moonite Boutique Hotel about 600 baht a night with a small car park at the rear :-)

I loved the dark side as you put had some good holidays there up too 3 mths at a time snd it wasent long enough .that was 30 od yr ago Now take the kids to jomtein a couple of times a yr and 5 or 6 days im ready for home
Tom *********
I hate Bangkok too, Only going there for as short a time as possible when land in November to get measured for some short sleeved shirts at a place know and see if I can persuade them to make some washable shorts for me. Too big now, too buy easily. then its down to the Dark Side of Pattaya to visit a Jersey friend then on to visit another Jersey friend 20 Km south of Pattaya. Then its fly up country to relax and have a first no obligation site visit with the builder I am thinking of using for our new build. He is English with a Thai team that lives on site and with the land wants to pile the house first as he does with all of his builds. He is more expensive than local relatives but he speaks English, seems to know what he is talking about and was able to give me an estimate for what I wanted which sounded about right by email. Next stage is to get the land surveyed, registered, plans drawn and agree a firm price and for exactly what I want.

@Paul *********
I think you should be OK with all those documents. Have known others get through with less. Do they give you an answer on the spot? And collect the visa in a few days. Or give you an answerer over the phone ( we had a couple of days wait for our sons a few years back while they had Jersey Immigration check or our accommodation then collected in 7 days? When we flew over to hand in my sons application, we arrived the day after the Tsunami, the Embassy was closed and all staff were understandably down on the coast. We held up in a Bangkok hotel/ appartment for a week before they reopened with an overwhelmed skeleton staff. They were very helpful though and informed us after a week for collection a week later. And my work let me have an extra weeks holiday so we could fly back with him. The London to Jersey air fair though,booked over the phone for three of us at short notice cost an arm and a leg !!!

@Paul *********
Yeh but the may still give you a visa for 6 months. We were refused one once before we were married but Jai could not show enough of her own funds, a return ticket,or a good reason to come back, although I had offered financial support, and her young son was remaining in Thailand. Believe the now want evidence of travel health Insurance ? But not certain. it was a different storey once we were married. EEC Human Rights law played a part.

@Pa**
. Without wanting to sound pedantic, it's an extention of stay based on marriage not a "Thai wife visa". Just a heads up so other group members that might be following dont get confused.

Yes he could but he would have to leave the country every 90 days with the non imm o multi based on marriage. He seems to have enough monthly income for an extention of stay. He just needs confirmation from his embassy
