From my understanding the gyms have to be approved to be a sponsor of the DTV visa. That means they are subjected to filling out attendance records. There are gyms that have been faking attendance records of students and have been fined, blacklisted from sponsoring the DTV visa as well as charged with fraud..

So the gym does have a responsibility to log your attendance. I understand your worry of being caught up in a scheme because it can also effect you if immigration doesn't believe your attendance record is real.
