Carsten von Holdt I hired a car in the UK, using my Thai drivers license. I actually had a valid UAE and UK paper license too. My credit card address was Thailand and they accepted the Thai license.

When you use the re-entry permit they will stamp it “Used”. You can buy re-entry permits at the airport.
