TLDR : Answer Summary
The main inquiry revolves around the relationship between holding a Thai motorcycle license and eligibility for coverage under UK travel insurance while riding a bike in Thailand. It appears that a Thai motorcycle license does not automatically validate one’s ability to ride up to 125cc under UK insurance policies since Thailand has different regulations that may not recognize foreign licenses in the same way. Comments emphasize the importance of checking directly with the insurance company regarding specific coverage terms and stipulate that to drive legally in Thailand, one needs a proper Thai motorbike license, since they do not distinguish between motorcycle categories like 125cc.

I would be extremely careful when it comes to insurance companies. Their nature is too look to avoid or mitigate any claims. Check with the insurance company.

Ask the Insurance company not Facebook as Facebook won't pay your claim.

You have to ask your insurancecompagny allows driving on a Thai motorcycle license, they are the only ones who now your exact insurance terms.
Please consider circa 24,000 DEAD AND 700,000 + INJURED EVERY YEAR. My road alone 5 ambulances pass every day 🙁

If your Thai motorcycle license is recognised under Uk road laws.. meaning it gives you the legal right to ride a motorcycle in the Uk without restriction.. then it would be reasonable to assume your travel insurance would be valid in the event of an accident whilst riding a motorcycle in Thailand.. however this is not the case since there is a restriction in place that limits how long you could ride in the Uk with a Thai license before being compelled to take a Uk test and obtain a Uk license.. just as there is here in Thailand.. and even if said restriction did not apply.. i would say validity of cover would also depend upon when you obtained your Thai motorcycle license.. because you would have needed to hold it at the time of buying the travel insurance for the cover to be effective.. meaning if the motorcycle license was obtained afterwards.. and is dated after the acquisition of the insurance policy.. then the insurer is unlikely to extend coverage and could deny a claim.. so it would be unwise to rely upon it in these circumstances.. when all is said and done i do wonder why you need to lean on your travel insurance in this scenario anyway.. since hire bikes should come with insurance that you can usually top up for more complete cover.. and if you own a bike it should have insurance.. it's fairly inexpensive in Thailand.. and if you are looking to ride here extensively it makes sense to be properly covered under a Thai insurance policy.. if you were ever hospitalised as a result of a motorcycle accident the last thing you want is to be denied treatment because your travel insurance is not valid!
So are you legally allowed to drive a motorcycle in England? Pretty straightforward realy.

I would think you would only be covered by travel insurance if you are a tourist. If you are driving on a Thai license it you will probably not be considered a tourist.

Thailand doesn't recognise different cc categories, here you either have a full motorbike licence or you don't have a motorbike licence at all, so basically you can't legally ride a motorbike in Thailand and as you are not legal your insurance won't cover you.
surly if your qualified to ride a momotorbike up to 125 cc and you have a u.k International driving permit your coverd for up to three months by your u.k holiday insurance or sixty days .
Thailand doesn't recognise different cc categories, there is no up to 125cc here, you either have a full motorbike licence or you don't have a motorbike licence at all. Also you won't have the motorbike stamp in your IDP unless you have a full motorbike licence.
Everybody knows how insurance companies love to pay out and they will do whatever they can to avoid it, this has caught many people out in the past as the insurance company won't pay out if you are not correctly licensed.
ok. But iam talking about a u.k bassed insurance company they stipulate up to 125 cc in most cases for holiday insurance to cover a tourist to ride a bike in Thailand. As long as you hold the correct u.k license.
it's not valid for that length in Thailand tho i thought was 1 year valudation but been correced and is 3 months. Was over 4 years ago when I had one no need for it now haveing both thai bike n car
it's now 2 years! But if you're here in Thailand for longer than 3 months it becomes invalid and you need to apply for your Thai licence. We did that,3 weeks ago.
definitely. My husband has both too. I had my purse stolen on New year's Day,with my UK licence inside. Even though I still had my IDP,I had to do the 2 day course. The practical was fine but the theory - never want to have to do that again. As my husband DID have his UK licence and IDP he was issued with both licences within an hour. So much simpler now.
yes,we just did it ourselves. Luckily we should just be able to renew simply after the 2 years is up.

Insurance still won't cover you you can get accident insurance from most banks for about 5k baht good for public hospitals only covers you for 150k plus your rego insurance is 30kbaht only covered if you have international driving permit or Thai licence to ride

Ask your insurance company. They wrote the policy of what they cover
Depends insurance company. Normally insurance accept local Thai driving license. Best option is your own country driving license and top of that international driving license. In your case it seems that you have to have Thai motorbike license for insurance. However, they have to confirm that it’s enough. My experience is that insurance companies try to find every holes to avoid paying.
-No license
-No Helmet
-Motorcycle not legal
-Driving under influence
Insurance companies have guys who only doing this job. Second step is GoFundMe app if something happens.
PS. 125 cc is enough everywhere if you don’t have a plan to have long trips in highways.
If you do not have a bike license/endorsement you may be ticketed. I think the easy way to think, if you do not have a ‘license’ you could have issues. If you can get an international permit from England for cars and/or bikes, you should be fine, if you can’t, you will be taking a risk.
Thailand doesn’t recognize your insurance as a license.

You won't get a Thai motorcycle licence unless you have UK motorbike licence legally ,I had to show the DLT on my UK licence that I was allowed to drive motorbike and car as the classes of the vehicle you are allowed to drive on the back of UK licence ,take the motorbike test here in Thailand only 1000 baht to do and 2 days training
I did not have a motorbike license in Australia...but I got a Thai license no problem...just had to do the obstacle course on my bike...had my license in 1 hour cost me 260 baht
I did say that at the last sentence of my comment ,my stepson just did it last week at training centre ,1000 baht

A Thai diverse licence doesn't allow you to drive in UK, means you won't be covered by your insurance driving a bike in Thailand. Seems to be a typo or a sh*t company.

Carsten von Holdt I hired a car in the UK, using my Thai drivers license. I actually had a valid UAE and UK paper license too. My credit card address was Thailand and they accepted the Thai license.
