What should I know about my re-entry permit and 90-day reporting while traveling outside Thailand?

Questions for the experts….. On my first Non-O 12 month retirement extension, single entry, valid until January 2025. I

need to go back to the US to handle some business for a couple months but will return to

thailand well before my extension runs out. Question 1, the photo is from my passport, is that a re-entry permit? Wasn’t sure if my single entry was considered when I got here or if this gives me one more entry? If it is a valid re-entry permit, do I need to do anything with it upon leaving, like get it validated at the airport or something? Secondly, do I continue to make 90 day reports while gone, or just resume when I get back?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post seeks clarification on the holder's Non-O visa re-entry permit status while traveling to the US. Experts confirm that the document is a valid single re-entry permit usable until January 2025, with no additional steps required upon departure. They also indicate that the 90-day reporting requirement resets on leaving Thailand and resumes upon return. For frequent travelers, switching to a multiple re-entry permit is recommended for convenience.

Clearly this unused re-entry permit will allow you back into the country without invalidating your visa.. however you'd need to buy another one if you later decided to trip out of the country again.. ie. before your visa expires.. if you intend to travel regularly the multiple re-entry permit is a better option and should be considered when extending your visa.. it will sync with your visa expiry date and means you'll never screw up by flying without one!

When you use the re-entry permit they will stamp it “Used”. You can buy re-entry permits at the airport.

1. You need to apply for a Multiple re-entry permit (what you have is a Single entry) at the airport before you leave with 3,800 THB fee, the Form called TM.8

2. No need to apply 90 days report. It reset everytime you leave and count day 1 when you enter Thailand again.

There is no big USED stamp in red on it so it is still a valid single re entry permit.

No single re entry means just that. Maybe a multiple reentry would be better. Having said that you can always get 30 days at the airport and then extend.

You will be able to get a multiple re.entry permit at the Airport when you depart.. so you will have no issues when you arrive back subject to the visa still being valid.. easier at the airport ..done it many times its very conveniant..

What does it say on the picture?

That is a valid re-entry permit. You can use it up to 31 Jan 2025 and do not need to do anything else. Your 90 day report requirement stops when you leave the country, and starts as Day 1 upon the day of your return.

That is a single re-entry permit. Valid until Jan ‘25.

When you leave Thailand the need for 90 day reporting stops. It resets to day 1 when you enter again.
