I heard or read somewhere quite a long time ago that mosquitos are attracted to 'sweet' blood. It kind of makes sense to me, because I've always had a 'sweet tooth' and they seem to love me
based on many comments I've read in the past 12-18 months, getting a visa based on retirement is fairly straightforward and should need an agent to do it. If you've already got a Thai bank account in your name only, that's a step that is getting harder to achieve that you wouldn't need to worry about.
EDIT: mis-type, I meant to say that using an agent SHOULDN'T be needed
we'll have to agree to disagree about "encouraging", because you said "Do the crime, pay the fine and enjoy". At the same time, you didn't encourage the OP 'clean up his act',or 'refrain' from overstaying in future. How about 'do the crime, pay the fine and don't do it again and it'll be better for you and others'? End of conversation as far as I'm concerned. While feeling that I needed to say something, I'm not one to get into arguments or slanging matches. Have a good day Todd and I must say that I look forward to hopefully have a future of living in Thailand, I appreciate all the good advice you put out there.
well said. While I've only been to Thailand once and did things right, I have plans to retire to Thailand and don't want that made even more difficult or impossible because of guys that cannot stop sliding their hands down the front of their pants!
for the benefit of the 'many' who do the right thing, though I'm not in the habit of doing so, I think that a rant directed towards someone who is clearly, by his own words, is deserved. Why should people like the OP be allowed to 'continue in their ways' and spoil things for the majority who do the right thing?!
I know that you provide a lot of great advice, but this isn't one of those occasions. Although there's lots of reasons for overstays, there can't be for 'habitual' overstaying, which according to the OP's words IS. Sure, one can be 'caught out' maybe getting a date wrong, such as when forgetting the date in the passport stating the last day of stay IS, or losing track of time while enjoying the holiday so much. This though, what the OP has stated can't be that. I totally agree with Mac Gt!! By your words, it seems to me that you're encouraging habitual overstaying and therefore making things harder for those who do the right thing.
"We will all be rooting for you"... So I assume that you support wrongdoing? Or do you mean 'rooting' his Thai ladyfriend? I'd only consider that latter 🤣 I'd suggest that the OP stay out of Thailand for several years until Thai authorities have had time to 'forgive' his indiscretions.
