No forget about applying outside of Thailand they will give you only 90 days with all company documents and work permit letter. so better do it in Thailand

Yes the Thai embassy in Penang can do it but only for 90 days and after that you need to go to your immigration to have it done for 1 year so at the end better go directly to the Thai immigration ;)

Check if the hotel casino is open on the Myanmar side opposite of Ranong, if open use their nice boat to do the visa run

Also a good idea is to do it in 2 days so you can have your own pace and visit a bit

Best rent a car and drive yourself to Ranong or Satun or if you like to spend 7 hours in a minibus with a maniac driver go for it

In the South many people do it on their own, could be in Sadao, Satun or Betong, park your car on the Thai side and walk , get stamped and back again. 🙂
