You'll most likely need proof of onward travel within 30 days to board your flight. LHR are notoriously strict when it comes to enforcing correct travel documentation.

It's the Airport Authority that has the say rather than the airline

 The vast majority get their Non Imm O before arriving in Thailand, it makes the process much easier and it's what Thai Embassys/Consulates advise.

 You are joking right? Much easier to have the visa BEFORE you arrive in Thailand, plus you can only get the OA in your home Country
