 It's the Non Imm OA that you can only apply for in your home country or a country you have PR in. They are 2 totally different visas

 The 800k only needs to be seasoned for the 1 year extention of stay not the initial Non imm O visa.

 He could get a tourist visa in any neighbouring country no need to return to the UK. He could also apply for a Non Imm O in a neighbouring country or convert a 30 days exemption to Non Imm O in Thailand.

 Since when can't you apply for a Non Imm O visa based on being over 50 at a Thai Embassy? It's where 99% of people get their visas.

 I've always found the extention based on marriage very easy and you dont have to tie up so much 'dead' money in a Thai bank.
