Got my police clearance certificate at the police station complex across the street from what was then called Central World in BKK. Near Siam BTS. It was in color and looked like a HS diploma. Bring the usual pics, couple or hundred THB. They asked me for a copy of my last work permit. Not sure why. Luckily had a scanned copy. I needed the clearance for a ret visa. But that was 5 yrs ago. Things change so YMMV. Good luck.

15 years ago went to the USA embassy in BKK (am USA citizen) and obtained a "free to marry" notarized doc as per the embassy procedures (cannot remember if I had it translated into Thai). Simply walked with the bride into the "Amphur" office in Phuket, without appointment, and they had us sign papers, issued two docs (which will be required for visa extension based on marriage), and we were out in less than an hour.

Am a USA citizen who had a child here in Thailand a few years ago. Had to get the Thai birth certificate translated into English. Went to the USA embassy in Bangkok and filed a Certificate Report of Birth Abroad. Sometime later, we got the certificate of US citizenship for my kid. Using this, also applied for a US passport, and a Social Security number. If you are not married, I believe you may be asked for a DNA test to establish paternity. I was legally married here in Thailand, so I had to bring translated copies of both marriages certificates. There was an interview and I had to bring the wife and kid. The kid now is a dual citizen, leaves Thailand on a Thai passport and enters the US with the US passport. Reverse procedure on the return trip. This was 15 years ago and laws change from time to time. The USA embassy had a list of nearby translators. Good luck!

Did immigration assure you could change an extension based on retirement to an extension based on marriage?

Traveling is stressful enough and we only do it on occassion. Bring triplicate if you pass thru 3 airports. Departure, connection, arrival. Leftover paper serves as shopping list note paper. Nothing wasted.
