Is it possible to send 20k THB twice a month to conform to the 40k THB per month financial marriage requirement? Or is it only allowed a single 40k THB transfer? Can anyone comment? Tnx.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to send 20k THB twice a month to meet the financial requirement of 40k THB per month for a marriage visa in Thailand. There is no specific rule stating that it must be a single transfer; however, it is suggested to keep things simple by making a single deposit to the same account every month to facilitate the immigration process.

Is this something new having to have 40k a month put into your thai account I am married with 2 daughter's and have our own home I send money every week for the wife and kids totalling about 36k but my wife has uk bank account I put it in that she has a cash card for uk bank and takes money out with that

Chris Topher Ian Fowler. Not new. It's always been a requirement for an O (married to Thai) visa. Must be in a Thai bank account.

Open a TransferWise account and use that to ‘hold’ the money. That way there will be no restriction on amount you can transfer into your Thai account

My bank will not let me do an online wire in excess of $1,000 at a time. That is the problem. Fees, rates, etc. are secondary issues.

Yes but you could transfer the money x2 (or x4 whatever you want) into the Transferwise account ahead of time and then do ONE transfer from Transferwise of whatever you want (certainly up to $3,000) to your Thai account.

Ok, i understand it is possible to accumulate $1000 USD several times on the TW account, then send one time. This solves the problem. Thanks to everyone!!! 😏

Ok, I will check if I can do two transfers of $1,000 each on two different days into the Transferwise account and accumulate $2,000 USD before doing the single one of $2,000 USD to my Thai bank. That will surely solve the problem. Thanks!

But as
@Bobby *******
points out, do check it shows as a foreign transfer from TW into your Thai account. Although, logically, it should because you can hold different currencies within a TW borderless account.
Bobby ********
Jane Beresford. Will that still show as a foreign transfer? I thought (only thought) I read on one of the Transferwise groups that it doesn't work for that. Never tried it, so I'm really not sure.

The best way is to test it, see what is shown, and also ask the branch when you have your bank book updated. Some of those forums are out of date and also inaccurate I find. But I guess if it was a common way of doing it, there would be more posts about it, I agree.

The requirement is 40k per month. There is no stipulation on how this is accumulated. HOWEVER, to keep the immigration officer onside, make it simple. He/she would be happier seeing one deposit each month of the minimum amount into the same account. Don't switch accounts midstream. When you present simplicity in your application it does make life easier at extension time

It is a bank policy. So there must be a US bank that allows more than $1000 USD online transfers to banks overseas. What bank? Certainly not Citibank.
Bobby ********
Jorge Jo. That I don't know. You'd need to ask someone who transfers from the US. Kool Breez may be the man. I transfer from Australia with no issues.

I would change banks, very strange only being able to transfer up to $1000 in one transaction.

I had to switch from my First Hawaaian Bank because they also limited me in the amount I would transfer to my. Thai bank. They told me at that time some 5 years ago that the U.S. Government wouldn’t allow them to transfer to any bank overseas especially Thai banks, so I changed banks and haven’t had a problem since.

Jorge Jo. What is the difference between an internet banking transfer and a "wire" transfer? I'm unfamiliar with the term "wire".

@Bobby *******
They are practicallt the same but banks have imits for some cases, like sending money online from US Citibank to Thai Kasikorn bank. If in person at the bank, the limit is much liberal.
Bobby ********
Jorge Jo. I'm unfamiliar with limits on transactions. Perhaps it's your bank's policies? There are thousands of Americans living in Thailand who would be transferring the 40k or 65k on a monthly basis.
Kool *******
@Bobby *******
most refer to SWIFT transfers from banks as wire transfers.

Is is a US bank. Which other US banks allow wire transfers online of say $1,500 USD? Good info!
Kool *******
Change banks. Neither of my American banks have that restriction. It only gets to be a problem when sending more than $10k.

I will look up info on Transferwise. Being overseas in TH still limits me from online moving more than $1000 out of my bank. Is it possible to have a "balance" in Transferwise?
Bobby ********
Jorge Jo. Must be a US regulation? I shift 65k baht every month from Australia to Thailand. I'm sure there's stacks of Americans using TW for this purpose. Have you tried?

Thanks for the input. My bank only allows an online wire transfer of $1000 USD at a time. I can send more than $1000 but have to be in person at the branch.

try transferwise much cheaper than a wire and a much better rate just make sure you check funds fo longstay in Thailand

Thanks for the advise but the question is how to do a single online transfer from the US in excess of $1,500 US. Can I save/deposit money in Transferwise until the $1,500 US is ready for transfer? Tnx
Bob **********
@Jorge ***
you can transfer more than $1500 change the limit on your debit card it's the only way to go

Sorry but debit card is not on the picture. The issue is the maxximum allowed by the bank for transfering money online. I am researching Transferwise and it looks it will solve the problem. Tnx for the comment.

@Jorge ***
when you use TW, you will be asked "Reason for transfer". Scroll down until you reach something like 'expenses for living in Thailand'. This "should" then show as a foreign transfer on your statements. Which is a requirement for the visa/extentions

Jorge Jo. Use Transferwise in conjunction with Bangkok Bank. Meets the criteria
