Lee Wells The need for a Residence Certificate depends on which bank you visit. Several banks don't care the least if you show up with a RC.Some banks instead ask for the equivalent to the RC from an Embassy or Consulate.

Did you just go to one bank? Requirements actually differs between banks, even between branches. Bangkok Bank is considered the most foreigner friendly bank in Thailand. Fyi, the US Embassy has stopped issuing the equivalent to immigrations Residence Certificate.
