I ran into many problems following an overstay stamp - which I shouldn't even have incurred but Chiang Mai visa office forgot to stamp my passport with the new visa date and I got fined and shouted at at BKK airport. I even had a receipt! Anyway, a year later on a visa run to Hong Kong I was taken into a room where I was interviewed by 5 people. I was then told to get on a plane back to HK. I asked why. No reason was given other than i had a lot of entries to Thailand. I then had to pay a 'fine'. I didn't have to fly back to HK in the end, but it was a truly horrible experience. So the person disagreeing with you is actually right - not everyone's experience is the same and I have heard of many who've had similarly terrible things happen.
