Has anyone from the UK without a husband or wife in Thailand and without a visa, managed to get into Thailand recently? A friend of mine applied for the OA and got in but the amount of paperwork required was ott and she already had 800k in the bank. On the Thai embassy London site it states you need 65,000 THB or 800,000 THB in the bank. However, Siam legal say on their site that we need both.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the challenges faced by UK citizens trying to enter Thailand without a visa or spouse. A user inquired about recent experiences of entering Thailand under these conditions. Respondents mention that the Thai Embassy in London is currently issuing tourist visas (TR) which require substantial paperwork and a quarantine period. Additionally, they clarify the financial requirements for the OA (Retirement) visa, stating that applicants can either show 800,000 THB in the bank or a monthly income of 65,000 THB, but not both. It's noted that the funds must be maintained in the applicant's name for three months prior to application.

Because an O-A Visa is applied for in one's home country at a Thai Embassy / Consulate. The Financial Requirements are normally in home country currency equivalent to Baht amounts. The 800,000 Baht Equivalent must be in the bank 3 months prior to Visa application. Account is in the visa applicant's name only.

That's so good to know. And that is what it states on the Embassy's website. Are we expected to scan the last 6 months of bank statements to them or something? Thanks again. It gives me some hope!

When I came in on Non O for marriage I had to show

0 baht or equivilant not backdated nor did it have to be in a Thai bank account. It was only when extending in country you had to show the money in Thai bank account and it had to have been there for at least two months.

Yes, my friend said it took 3 weeks of her life! I'm just concerned I'll pay for everything, maybe even get the COE, and then it all fall through.

I've heard a few people report they'd got it done in a week. I don't think you have to make any big payouts before you know if you'll get in.

That's good to know. My friend went through that embassy - she found the New York one unhelpful.

Thai Embassy in London is issuing tourist visas now (TR visa, not STV), people have already entered Thailand with it. Look on their website for requirements. It's a 3 month visa, I believe. Yes, there's a bunch of paperwork (doable) and 2 weeks quarantine (up to you if it's worth it :-) )

Have you got the link to apply for the tourist TR visa? I have looked on the UK Thai embassy web site and can not see how to apply. Thanks

I'm just anxious I'll shell out loads of cash only to fail to meet one criterion and the whole thing fall through.

It's not bad, here's a link to the Washington DC RTE's requirements..essentially the same for UK I believe. If you're willing to do/pay for quarantine, that's the biggest part.
