It would honestly be far less bureaucratic hassle to go with the Soft Power route. Muay Thai or cooking. It's not a crazy commitment. 20K฿ for a 6 month course, 10x two-hour sessions per month for the MT gym I looked at. And then you're done. You get to meet people, immerse in the culture and then have a 5 year visa.
Fred Wijnands OP wants to get this Thai driver license so he can legally ride his scooter. This requires a TM30 in order to get Certificate of Residence.
