About 30 years ago when overstaying was not such a problem. 100 Baht per day with a maximum of 20K Baht, then it became a criminal offence if cought by the police but not if you made it to immigration when leaving. I'd stayed over 1 year and presented myself to immigration when leaving for a trip to Australia with the 20K in my pocket to pay the fine. The immigration officer looked at my passport but didn't notice the year in my entry stamp and charged me for a few weeks overstay 😀 I went to Sydney with an extra 20K Baht to spend 😀😀😀
Vist most years for 3 months, avoiding winter in the UK. Retired now and planning on staying long time. Probably in 2026. Will get the bank account when I'm back in January on a 90 day non-o visa and transfer the 400K (99% sure I'll go for a Marriage extension) over 2025 so avoiding any 180 day tax liability, if that ever becomes a thing.
