Don't have contactless, hmm! When I was there in December I saw street food vendors that had QR systems to pay. Admittedly you need a Thai bank account. Don't know if you can open one with an ED Visa, but where there's a Thai agent, there is always a way to do anything 😂
According to some of the experts on FB even if you deposit money in a year you do not spend more than 179 days and the next year your in Thailand for more than this, then according to some on FB it is then taxable regardless of which year it was deposited. Not my opinion, the opinion of others.
Depending on this new tax on foreigners bank deposits in Thailand, for the visa Thai bank account you need to prove 800,000 baht, but if that is liable to be taxed, then the rate for between 750,000 & 1,000,000 baht is 20%, which would only leave 640,000 baht, if that is the case then you'd needed 960,000 in your Thai account. If you go down that road for a retirement visa, you'd be better off finding an agent for the lowest price you can.
Anonymous participant That is correct, no matter what you use to apply for the visa it doesn't matter when you take up an activity as long as it is post date to when you apply for the visa
When you say you could deposit a couple of million, I presume you mean baht. Don't do it until this tax thing is clearer. Even then I'd only deposit the amount required to get the visa. 800,000 baht. Actually you need to get advice by the expat experts because there's several things you need to know before you make a decision. The guy that seems to be really knowledgeable is called Tid Daniels, just search him on FB and message him, he's very obliging with advice.
