Pretty sure it was only the STV - not the TR - which cannot be converted - from what I've read, STV holders will have no choice but to either leave when it's up, overstay, or get lucky with amnesty/covid extensions at that time. Not an issue if the vaccines work but a potentially very expensive problem if they don't.

"In my day, my dad told me I had to go down t' coal mines if I wanted spending money, and I turned out alright." Ok but in your day property was affordable (and it could be argued that having no compassion for others is not a very good definition of 'turning out alright'). Young people these days are saddled with crippling debt with no way to get on the property ladder unless they live in a shithole and commute 2 hours to work every day. Don't punish them for how hard your parents made it for you. Help them to survive in this crazy world and they will help you when you're too old to help yourself. In your day you just needed a few months salary to be able to put a deposit down on a mortgage haha

and yet the actual answer was an unequivocal yes, for his nationality. I find it interesting and quite sad how comical some people find the concept of family supporting each other financially during a global crisis, especially living in part of the world where it's a cultural norm for family to have each other's backs. The idea of a guarantor is not really that ridiculous, is it? I'd do it for my kids if they were stuck in a dead-end situation in a covid-ridden country and wanted to emigrate to somewhere where a normal life can be had.

just do the test within 72 hours of departure then your result will also be within 72 hours... sounds like a rapid test that takes 30 mins to have a result. Even with a backlog of results it's not going to take days to get yours, but look for a place that guarantees same day result, if you're worried.
