gave me the confirmation I pretty much longed for, i.e. extension is not = visa being void. Whatever happens in 3 months is anybody's guess, and nothing more than a guess so let's leave it at that. Thanks again, much appreciated!

They did it when we got married, but it was a few years ago, not sure about now since transactions rates has changed, its pretty much exactly 40,000 evened out

I would go to Laos and cross from there on a visa exempt or try to get a visa in Savannakhet or Vientiane. Phnom Penh has been harder than others from my experience, and Poi Pet is up to IOs own rules, (like u can not fly into Siem Reap and go back by border I was told last time, got away with a warning), but surely not the border of choice seeing your situation, whish u best of luck...
