Short report from Poipet border.
Most of us know this is not the landborder of choice for many reasons, however I thought I would share what I was told yesterday:
Visa: non Imm O ME from Savannakhet based on marriage.
I had been flying to Siem Reap a few days before, then crossed the border by land.
The officer didn't seem to have any issues with my visa. She told me however that crossing the border by land when flying in was wrong and not allowed.
I was told I need to either fly back or cross the border into Cambodia by land then go back by land or fly back.
All of this makes little sense but I played along, apologized for being clueless and got stamped out with a vocal warning, nothing in the passport.
To my knowledge this is an arbitrary rule which can't be referred to anywhere in actual documents, correct me if I'm wrong.
It never seemed like she would send me back to Poipet, however if I would had been bitching about it and question her in a confrontational way there might have been a different ending.
Just a heads up for those who needs to cross that border for one reason or another.
TLDR : Answer Summary
This report recounts an individual's experience crossing the Poipet border from Cambodia into Thailand on a Non-Immigrant O visa based on marriage. The border officer warned that it was incorrect to cross by land after flying into Siem Reap, suggesting the alternate requirement to return by the same means. The account highlights perceived arbitrary regulations and encourages awareness for future travelers using this border.
