Chaeng Wattana report.
60 days extension for visiting family on a Non Imm O ME visa issued in Savannakhet.
Arrived about 8:30, was out of the premises about 9:15.
I was told that I did NOT need to come and do the extension due to the ongoing amnesty, but decided to get over there and ask myself, I still did it since some officers may argue it was for people entering after the 26th of march, and my last entry stamp was in January, so felt better to be sure.
The Immigration Officer in area L1 counter 31 assured me that I would not have to come back in June and that I would be included in the new amnesty bill WHEN it was approved (she DID acknowledge that it was not yet set in stone/legalized), and that I could stay in the country until July 31st if it became legalized.
So all in all, some people on non imm O ME say they called and were told they don't have to make a 60 day extension, others went there and were told they had to do it. I was told I didn't have to do it unless I wanted to.
So as said many times before, if unsure go and speak with your IO since the interpretation of the rules can be arbitrary and up to whomever you'll meet. When borders open again it will be good to have some references at the immigration if questioned on the spot, not only "I thought it was ok".
TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent report from Chaeng Wattana detailed a successful acquisition of a 60-day extension for a Non-Immigrant O ME visa. Despite confusion over ongoing amnesty rules, the immigration officer confirmed that the extension would remain valid until July 31st, pending legalization of the amnesty. The report suggests that individuals on Non-O visas should verify information directly with immigration officials, as interpretations of rules can vary.
