Good evening.

I will have to make a new passport at my embassy in a few weeks. I did the process 4 years ago but would just like to have somethings clarified.

1. Do I need to transfer my old ME Non Imm O to my new passport, or can I just bring both my old and new passport with me when I go to Savannakhet to get a new one?

2. If it's required, is it the usual immigration office in Chaeng Wattana that I have to visit?

3. Do they require a tm30 to transfer a visa?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry revolves around the need to transfer a ME Non Imm O visa to a new passport after renewal and whether it's necessary to visit the usual immigration office in Chaeng Wattana. Answers clarify that the process varies depending on the type of visa: if it's a year-long Non O visa from a consulate, it should not be transferred, while an extension of stay does require a transfer. It also mentions necessary documentation and procedures regarding both passports during border crossing.

Just on the chance you actually have a year extension of stay

This is what you need copy wise to transfer the stamps at Chaengwattana in Section L

You get the transfer stamp form from the information counter inside the door on the right in the rooms with the tables with pens & glue

okay let's get this sorted.

IF you have a year-long, multi-entry Non-O VISA in your passport from a thai consulate in another country (the kind where you leave ever 90 days) you CANNOT get it transferred to the new passport and you show BOTH passports at the border; getting stamped out and back in on the new one but showing the visa in the old one until it (the visa) expires.

BUT

IF you have a year-long, extension of stay in your old passport from the immigration office inside the country (the kind where you do 90 day reporting) you MUST get it, along with any valid re-entry permits transferred to a new passport.

Here's an example of a Non-O visa from a consulate <- that you DON'T transfer and a yearly extension of stay <- that you DO transfer.

i see, thanks for the clear reply.

So this one that I got when i made my last passport is not a transfer of visa then correct?

When are you going to Savannakhet to get the new visa? When you stamp out of Thailand, you can show the entry stamp from the old passport and they should stamp you out on the new one.

My passport filled up and with my new passport was a letter addressed to immigration to transfer it which was free but it was yet another long day at immigration. I'm sure it's a similar process for your embassy too

I was in the exact same situation as you. My choice in the end was to not chance having a problem at the airport and just went to immigration early in the morning lol

I know I have transferred it before, i think i paid 500 baht though. But if it's not necessary and I can bring both passports to the embassy in savanakhet together with the letter from my embassy then surely that would be a preferable option rather than sitting in a queue for hours at CW. But wouldn't wanna risk it unless people know it's doable.
